AuroranHusker Posted February 16, 2014 Report Posted February 16, 2014 Wow, NU just held Mich St 27 pts under their season average of 78 ppg. That was the finest display the 2013-14 Huskers have been able to come up with in a long, long time. It was the defensive intensity that sparked Nebraska to win this ballgame, and it was led by Leslee Smith, Benny Parker & David Rivers (3 guys that have usually came off of the bench). Couple that defensive intensity with the nails of Pitch, Petteway & Shields on the offensive end of the floor & this team is coming together ("us always" anyone?) at the right time. Will be fun to see how these last 7+ games turn out with the defensive pressure & "will to win" NU is playing with at the moment. Time to rock the Vault!! HB 1 Quote
unl Posted February 16, 2014 Report Posted February 16, 2014 You need a good excuse to not make it there on Thursday. I hope the place is packed. No seats should be empty!! Quote
Huskerpapa Posted February 16, 2014 Report Posted February 16, 2014 We need to win Thursday...we need the fans to be loud and proud. We need to keep this momentum going! greymonkey 1 Quote
No Place Like the Vault Posted February 16, 2014 Report Posted February 16, 2014 The D was huge in the win. It got us the victory despite Shields and Gallegos cold shooting. Quote
49r Posted February 16, 2014 Report Posted February 16, 2014 D is also for David Rivers. Heck of a game for the young chap! REDZONEDAN 1 Quote
AuroranHusker Posted February 16, 2014 Author Report Posted February 16, 2014 D is also for David Rivers. Heck of a game for the young chap! I loved the triple he nailed when the Izzone duped him into taking it with 5 on the shot clock! Noticed that the Izzone didn't do that later on in the game after NU made a few of those late shot-clock shots... hehe Quote
HB Posted February 17, 2014 Report Posted February 17, 2014 Good reminder, Auroran, of the importance of defense. It became apparent about half way through last season that this staff could really scheme on defense. Including in-game adjustments. This year it took the young guys awile to figure it out, but we are making strides now. Quote
throwback Posted February 17, 2014 Report Posted February 17, 2014 NU's defense in 4 of the past 5 games (minus Michigan) has been outstanding - to me, it's no coincidence Parker & Rivers have played more during that stretch. NU's help defense and on-ball defense both are significantly better than they were even just a month ago. Silverbacked1 and greymonkey 2 Quote
nuled2dance Posted February 17, 2014 Report Posted February 17, 2014 When you play D you will be in any game no matter how poor your offense is. Glad to see our guys really focusing on that. Again own the D this week and we should have a 2-0 week. Silverbacked1 1 Quote

He struggled defending the paint early on. He has improved exponentially since the calendar turned over. But you gotta love the way Benny and David fell back into the good graces of the staff. They have made a positive difference. Quote
