Kenpom as of 11-27-12. Some notable moves: Northwestern jumped 20 spots in the last week. Kent State made a pretty significant jump after beating the Huskers, and finally, UTEP has fallen around 60 spots in the last week or so!

Hopefully we can at least switch places with them now if not move up more. Do these rankings factor in margin of victory?

KenPom's does, as well as a couple of other oddities. Fortunately, rpi is still not all that meaningful so far. Just remember that home losses are punished significantly by pretty much everybody, unless your opponent is so strong as to offset that penalty. The KSU loss at home is a big rpi ouch, just as Wake last year was. But this win probably mitigates that loss now, since road wins are always highly valued, even with weaker competition.

Kenpom as of 11-28-12. Not a whole lot of change since yesterday, but I did want to make two comments:

1). The B1G is boatracing the ACC so far in the B1G/ACC challenge - good to see, and it feels good to know the Huskers have done their part to contribute to the effort!

2). Despite the very mediocre competition so far, it's still nice to see all the W's in the games played column!

Probably won't do a whole lot for us, Vandy and Tulane were in the #100's and #150's respectively when we played (and beat) them and we didn't get much of a boost. I would expect that Creighton will help us much more (win or lose) than a win tonight will.

The upcoming game Thursday is looking to be a decent gauge of how we'll stack up against the upper half of the B1G. We're also inching closer to NOT being the lowest rated team in the B1G, which is definitely movement in the right direction!

Also, with 6 wins already in the non-con, it's beginning to look like we have a very realistic shot at 10 wins in the non-conference. If we can manage 6 wins in league play (a measly 2-win improvement over last year's train wreck), we will get to the .500 mark or better over all.

I'm trying to keep my enthusiasm in check here, but it's hard to ignore the fact that we have started out at or above pretty much everyone's pre-season expectations. Let me say, it's a good day to be a Husker!

Go Big Red! Get after those Bluejays!

Coupla questions

1. I know we played Wake on the road and did very well... but do you think Oregon will be our first "true" road test?

2. With that in mind what is the tougher game for us? Creighton at home or Oregon on the road? I think it looks closer than first glance

3. Will we move up at all if we would posssibly lose one or both of these games?

4. Say we finish Non Con at 10-3 or 11-2. Where is it looking like we will be heading into conference play?

I call Wake a true road test. I'd call Oregon a significantly more difficult test.

Norm, I don't disagree with you...in fact, feel free to continue to post Realtime RPI rankings to counter my kenpom posts.

I simply chose kenpom because I used them to illustrate a point in my OP and decided to keep up with it more from a consistency standpoint than anything. I really just want to see how the rankings progress throughout the season. So far, not really any surprises.

LOL, Norm.

Yeah, I like the other rankings better too, in fact I hate having to type numbers so high on the Nebraska line when posting the kenpom rankings.

Tell you what. I'll keep up with the kenpom, and you keep reporting our highest RPI otherwise. It'll be a kind of yin-yang deal.

Oooh, you better not put me in charge of that. I'm a bit of a homer. I know that must come as a shock but it's true.

Lemme just say I'm satisfied that Realtime has us top 60.

And here are the rankings post Oregon, back in the 200's, dang. Southern Cal made a nice jump 40 spots to 110, and is starting to look like a better win all the time. (Note also the HUGE drop Indiana took after losing to Butler)

and we'll drop some more, even if we win the next few games thanks to the level of competition. so we start conference probably right around the original 216 mark we started with. eek!
