With the hiring of a new assistant, and with that assistant having strong East Coast ties, it appears to me that we will have some new interest from talent in that area.  This is an exciting time.

Georgetown has a verbal commit from Isaac Copeland, 6'9" 205# Rivals 4-star PF from Brewster Academy in New Hampshire.

They are also involved with JaQuan Newton, Rivals 4-star PG from Philly, whom we were also listed with.

They are also among the many suitors for Zylan Cheatham.

They have also offered 5-star guard Dante Exum from Canberra, Australia.  Natural fit for us with our Aussie and NZ connections.

A few other names on their list that are players we've heard of.

Might this new hire move us up the list with any of those guys we'd previously reached out to?

I fully expect Exum to sign with Indiana.

Thats a good one.  Im still amazed how UNC is pretty much passing on a legacy 5* player with no real interest being shown to a former players son.

No inside info here, just digging.

Kenya Hunter said that two AAU teams he has a good relationship with are DC Assault and Team Takeover.

Also, from the Rivals article:

"In terms of recruiting, it's pretty clear Hunter is a rising star, as he has broadened his footprint in that regard. The Huskers can expect to be involved with kids from across the nation via Hunter, with a focus on the District-Maryland-Virginia region, North Carolina and Virginia proper, as well as points north of the DMV."

So...Here are a few players on Team Takeover that also have G'town offers:

2014 class:

Phil Booth: Shooting Guard, 6'3", 170 lbs, Rivals150, 4-Star, #76 overall prospect
Baltimore, Maryland
Mount St. Joseph

Tre Campbell: Point Guard, 6'1", 160 lbs, Rivals150, 4-Star, #121 overall prospect

Washington, DC
St. John's College High

2015 class:

Marcus Derrickson: Power Forward, 6'7", 250 lbs, Rivals150, 4-Star, #30 overall prospect
Fairfax, Virginia
Paul VI

I will say this in a diplomatic way and perhaps it will start a debate.  I have always been intrigued by East Coast guards.  Even when Nebraska was at its best, when we played teams from the East or when we played teams with stud guards from the East, they tended to outperform our guard court.  Certainly there are exceptions.  Lue, Strick and others certainly take a back seat to few, but man, the mentality and athletic performance seems to shine out East.

What do you think?

Actually, Martin was successful at getting kids from more than just DC Assault, although he did get a couple of those as well.  It helped KSU get things kicked off, though, by having the dude from West Virginia (with the drinking problem) bring Beasley and Walker in when he arrived.  That kind of gave Martin a head start.  And then when they had the guy from DC as the highest paid assistant EVAH, well, that helped as well.

Frank has had some success, to be sure.  But KSU had the table set for them and a lot of it was crawling in the gutter and hiring a radio-active coach who brought some players with him.  That's what really got them started.  They've just done a good job of parlaying that success and keeping it rolling when whatshisname left.  But they made a deal with the devil to get things started.

This is a guy I would want to get.  Hes a true combo guard and can shoot, pass, drive, and play defense.  He was my second favorite player last winter at the shootout in Portland behind 5* Aaron Gordon.  He did everything.

I kind of remember some of the Australian that I learned when Aleks was here.  Just in case I ran into him out and a bout and wanted him to feel good that I could talk to him in his native tongue.  Fair Dinkum Mate. B)

i agree whole 100% i guess it comes from the sheer amount of basketball they play...for instance, in 8th or 9th grade i had a coach who was born raised in new york, and he would describe to me the process of the city championship...than the winner of that they'd play the state championship.. so in the course of two tournaments he said he played like 20 games, it seemed like, and he said maybe 25-40 season games. That and it just seems there always go getters.. if you need a bucket there gonna get it...Kemba Walker perfect example. Pitt Guards, St Johns, it always felt like a diffrent brand of basketball.

Foster's == Beer

What more do you need to know???   :D

Funny thing, you go to Australia and there is no Fosters to be found.

Wasn't it Coach Miles saying not long that youth teams (especially summer?) play too many games and don't practice enough?  I thought that was the statement.

i think summer teams do play to much i was talking about the amount of games they play in the high school season for their school. I like AAU basketball, but that and how football coaches want their players to be invloved has pretty much killed off the Multi Sport star.
