But aren't we still bringing Zach Smith in for an official visit?

I can't imagine why we would want Smith over Gilmore. They're about the same size but Gilmore seems to be much more skilled offensively and just as good of an athlete.

I haven't seen much film on Smith....but I would be surprised if we accepted a commitment out of him right away.  I think the coaching staff really wants another big and if someone like Bolden wants to commit then we will take his commitment with him being a top recruit.  If not, I think we just end up with two bigs.  Just guessing, but for whatever reason it doesnt appear Gilmore is a priority.

I think we get a verbal from Wacker before he leaves here.

No inside information, just a gut feeling, and if you have ever seen my gut...

Most of the times my gut feelings turn out to just be bad gas.

You're lucky.  Have you ever heard the saying, "Never trust a fart?"

I called it 3 days ago that Gilmore was no longer interested in us, or we were no longer interested in him.

-It seemed pretty clear that was the case when he had a visit scheduled with Creighton for 3 weeks, but none scheduled with us.

-It seemed even more likely after we scheduled the visit with Smith and Wacker.

I would have to admit that Gilmore seems ahead of Smith in skill at this point, but Smith might be slightly stronger and more athletic. I think their potential might be about the same.

I think there is a good chance that Smith and Wacker will commit to us if we want them.

Norm at my age I have indeed learned that.

You also called Webster would never make it to Lincoln.

I said I felt like he wasn't going to make it because he had not gotten the SAT score he needed. He passed it on his last attempt. We were very lucky for once.

I was also the one who broke the news that the clearinghouse was making their decision about tai in 48 hours. 48 hours later, we found out he was eligible.

I'm using all the resources I can to give out info.

Perhaps we concluded his star was rising in other directions, I don't know.  Or maybe it was a "we love you, son, but we need players at other positions.  However, you might consider our friends up the road at Creighton."

Who knows.  I'm just guessing.

From the looks of it the folks up the road are REALLY HOPING this is indeed the case...

With all due respect to Wacker and Smith, Gilmore is the 3-4 star recruit and a kid who just grew from a 6-4 guard to a 6-7 kid with guard skills and the first guy we would sign if he was also visiting this weekend.  If we think we can get him to visit and potentially sign it seems unlikely we'll sign anyone else unless we plan on over-signing.  Given his visits to Nebraska and Creighton, it would seem that he at the very least can see himself playing in the state of Nebraska, which we can't say about a lot of kids.

Unless this kid has repeatedly told us he no longer wants to come to Nebraska, it would seem odd that we wouldn't still be pursuing him in some regards.  I'm not sure where he has officially visited but if he's visiting places like TCU or Baylor he's on the path to a smaller type school and we'll be out of the running.  He obviously has involved parents which is typically a positive sign overall.  More than likely they'll have their own list and a school like UNLV isn't going to be on it.

It's possible that a school like Creighton is guaranteeing him a starting job from day 1, where i'm not sure we could do that. I don't think there is a guarantee that gilmore starts over petteway, shields, fuller.

Or it's possible that he simply prefers Creighton over us...

I don't think it is Gilmore telling us no. Reading the Washut update a week or so ago, it sounds more like our coaches stopped contacting him. Who knows why that is for sure but it could be that some of these under the radar/late bloomers/whatever you want to call them are better prospects than Gilmore. Sure, Gilmore is the known commodity with the stars and the rivals ranking, but that doesn't mean he's automatically better than these other guys. And there could be totally different reasons as to why we cooled on him. I'm not going to sit here and argue that we would take a Wacker over Gilmore because Wacker is the better player. That is simply not true. But Zach Smith may have more of an upside. Mitchell Solomon, I don't know where we sit with him, but he was recently ranked #80 by scout. Maybe there are others in the mix that the coaches feel can provide more than Gilmore can.

FWIW I have heard that this is not the case.  But if we've cooled on him, I could definitely see him ending up at Creighton.

I'm thinking maybe Miles just wants a garbage man type like Smith or Wacker. You can't have 13 scorers, there's not enough shots to go around.  Smith sounds like an unselfish player who gets most of his points on hustle points (offensive rebounds, in transition, etc.). Could be a good guy to bring off the bench for 15 minutes a game.

kinda of what i was thinking, simply look at the way FLGC was constructed in the simpliest of observations they had a scorer, a distributor and than multiple hustle, and simply throw it up and ill go get type players. Considering the roster we have now, its possible that Miles wants smith to be that guy to fit that role.

Based on what has been said about Gilmore, how can anyone say he wouldn't fit that kind of role?  He's a 4-star player on a team with multiple (?) 5-star players who get the glory.  It was posted somewhere how unselfish he is.  He doesn't get to be THE MAN on his AAU team but he still digs in and does his job.  So maybe Gilmore is that type of player, too.  I don't know.

What I do know is that I don't know the internal workings of our hoops recruiting and whether we softened on Gilmore or Gilmore on us or whether we're still in the thick of it with him.  What I know is that I just don't know.

Rivals site summarized below actually lists only 2 schools Gilmore is HIGHLY interested in UNLV and us...

Yes that info dates back to mid July. Things have changed. I don't actually know anything but either our interest level in him has changed or his interest level in us has changed. Kinda obvious but those rivals pages are never spot on. It doesn't even list the Creighton offer.

idk either im just speaking in grand assumptions.. which loosely based on information ive read from this bored and a few sites. for whatever reason we are hosting Smith and Wacker this weekend and i wouldnt be shocked if smith or wacker commit. id be shocked if both did or both had commtitable offers. Maybe Gilmore commits this upcoming few weekends to Creighton and this convo is moot (who am i kidding that will only amplifly the conversation)
