Norm Peterson Posted August 8, 2013 Report Posted August 8, 2013 I will say, I will miss the secret parking spots that i had in past years. It took me several years to find those. Now i have to start over. I haven't paid for parking in about a decade for NU hoops... Boy, that's a big 10-4. I had a fantastic spot. Close. Free. Almost always available. It's as though I'd put the "no parking" sign there myself. Quote
Jadler Posted August 8, 2013 Report Posted August 8, 2013 I'll be accepting alcohol donations for parking spots in the bottoms right over the Haymarket bridge. hhcmatt and Silverbacked1 2 Quote
Concrete Posted August 8, 2013 Report Posted August 8, 2013 I'll defer opinion until we see how the parking goes. I went down to the Oven last night and spent 30 minutes driving around the Haymarket looking for a prking place. Made me want to apply for that handicapped sticker I deserve from not lacing up my basketball shoes all the way to the top. It wasn't even a particularly busy night, although there is all that last minute frantic construction going on and there was some sort of motorcycle event blocking one street. i can forsee pandemonium when the inevitable snow and icy winds accompany the basketball season. But I may be just a half full glass guy when it comes to the arena, so we'll see how it goes. I live in the Haymarket and agree that parking down there (even driving) is an absolute disaster right now. That said, the garages will certainly help that out and not having to drive through multiple lane closers/wait on forklifts driving down the street will open things up nicely. Luckily I won't have to worry about driving/parking for games until I decide to move in a few years so I'll be interested in seeing how it works out. They will have multiple exit ways out of the arena thanks to the new road they're building, but the Haymarket is a pretty congested space for traffic with or without construction. I can't imagine it will be worse than the Bob, though. That was absolutely awful. Quote

I can't imagine it will be worse than the Bob, though. That was absolutely awful. We are doing a big special section on the arena and surrounding area coming out on August 18. That will have a really good story on parking. A brief preview: event parking will be prepaid so when the event is over, everyone just pours out and you don't get stuck behind someone who can't find their parking slip etc. Zero traffic will be allowed to go through the old Haymarket. Instead the garages will pour out onto Pinnacle Arena Drive and either north to Salt Creek Roadway and South to N Street. trickey Posted August 9, 2013 Report Posted August 9, 2013 Lincoln city planners...you astound me! Great foresight for your children's children's children! http://journalstar.com/gallery/news/photos-haymarket-construction-continues/collection_33eeacfb-2cf3-5bee-bec3-035997e8f937.html#12 Don't know if this is sarcasm or serious but I think Lincoln's city planners FINALLY did something right. They effed up 33rd street at south. They effed up 27th by the country club and effed up 40th at the cemetary on O. They effed up all the east-west roads except for maybe O Street. You almost can't drive straight through Lincoln from one side of town to the other -- north to south or east to west -- without having to take some detour or get caught in some bottle neck. But, by gawd, they did the arena and surrounding area pretty well and it's going to be special. Now, they just need to widen the hell out of Sun Valley Blvd. And build another bridge over salt creek leaving Haymarket Park parking lots. Definitely not sarcasm...I lived in Lincoln for 7 years (but the last was 1976). I am now in Omaha and have season tickets for baseball, basketball and football...so I see Lincoln often. I am astounded the planners were progressive enough to take the initiative of making a district with the opportunity the new arena provided. I think Lincoln has taken a step that will make the town and the university much more attractive. I am happily surprised with the foresight of this development. Like everybody, I harbor worries about the parking jam for post games, etc. but on the whole I see this development as by far the most progressive thing Lincoln has done in decades. Quote

I mean once you get to the arena...great...but still...the parking is going to be a nightmare. As opposed to the easy in/easy out front-door parking that they had at Devaney. Yeah, that was a dream. Wish we could have that same scenario at PBA. Too bad they had to go and ruin everything by building garages and force people to park way closer to the arena than ever before. Excuse me while I just go ahead and kill myself now. I mean, I'll never be able to live a life where I have to actually walk somewhere. Quote

I mean once you get to the arena...great...but still...the parking is going to be a nightmare. When you view the parking statement...it requires that you contribute $300 or more to the Rebounders... This appears to perhaps be in addition to the seat donation...is that correct?...or does the amount you contribute as a seat donation now go to the Rebounders Club? Quote
jwpascale Posted August 9, 2013 Report Posted August 9, 2013 So whats happens if you park say at 9th & P street do you go south to O street then ? You basically could go anyway you want. They just are barricading vehicular traffic at 7th St. so the cars in West Haymarket don't try to get out through the Historic Haymarket. Silverbacked1 and hhcmatt 2 Quote

I believe your seat donation goes to the rebounders club so that counts toward the 300. I don't think any of the lots that the lower end donaters can get into are worth a crap and that the city parking is going to be way closer. Quote

I don't imagine that the real playing surface will be in place for everyone to trudge across in their street shoes and cowboy boots, will it? Does anybody know if that's the only floor or if they have purchased a 2nd backup floor? Maybe they are just going to have a basket down there so everyone can bounce the ball around on the concrete floor? Quote
