Analytically it is a poor choice to sit them all.  All forty minutes are important.

I 1000% agree with this and surprised it doesn't get more discussion.  It's likely because we are winning but it does feel like we are playing with fire.  These are all seniors and in our most important games, you have to trust they understand their importance and can play without fouling.  We were fortunate over the last 8-10 minutes of the first half to only be trailing by 5 at half.

I was pleased that Fred kept Juwan in with 3 fouls after he picked up his third early in the 2nd half.  They also made a nice adjustment at that point and made sure Gary was not guarding Thornton after that.

Interesting— wonder if they are seeing something analytically that we’re not seeing?

Whatever he’s doing must be working because….. we’re having the best 2 year stretch in a very long time.

I would not draw any correlation between 2 foul% and winning%

If anything, it correlates to pace. Fred's slower teams happen to be the ones that play guys less with 2 fouls

We play guys with two fouls 1.6 percent of the time before halftime.  That is 359th in the nation.  National average is 22.6 percent.  There is simply no way that we are that much smarter than everyone else.  We are leaving way too many quality minutes on the table.

We cant afford to keep going with random lineups that never play together just because guys have two fouls.  Like you said, we were very fortunate that the game didn’t get away from us.  Have to error on the side of gambling with our approach.  The tougher the team, the more this applies.

One thing I didn't see mentioned (and did not notice myself) was when Morgan skied for that rebound over Devin Royal and was called for a foul, Royal ended up being injured and didn't play the rest of the game.  Ohio St's lack of depth was exposed during the second half which certainly contributed towards the win

He did play in the second half. (Royal)  came in at the 15:57 mark

That would explain why no one noticed it!!!

I went back and re-read the Ohio St writeup and yes he got injured on that play, didn't start the second half, tried to give it a run in the second half, ended up leaving the arena wearing a walking boot.

It’s amazing we opted for some sort of line up that included 3 of meah, uhlis, hoiberg, Morgan, Jacobsen to end that 6-8 minutes in the first half and didn’t get boat raced….no shooters out there, no real offense being ran, and it somehow worked lol.

How disengaged must Griffiths be at practice to not even see a minute at the end of that first half too….really feels like a swing and a miss with him unfortunately.
