Serious question: How much better would the perception of the Big Ten be if we had a couple teams as pathetic as Georgetown & DePaul?

I was listening to a discussion on the radio about all of the Big East bubble teams and they were saying their resumes stacked up favorably to Nebraska's because they had better road records and that got me thinking. It would be nice to have a couple of conference in the bank before the season even starts because you know there are two teams out there are automatic wins. So I looked at the numbers and they confirmed my suspicions . . . Georgetown & DePaul resemble middle of the pack low-major teams more then the P6 teams they claim to be:

Team               KemPom / BartT / NET

Georgetown    197      181      203

DePaul             315      313      322

Michigan         124      117      129

Rutgers            90        98        90

UNO                261      264      272

We all know Michigan is bad, but they are light years ahead of DePaul & Georgetown. UNO is a (not so random) middle of the pack low-major team, and their metrics are way better than DePaul. And Georgetown is a lot closer to UNO than they are the B1G's next to last place team (Rutgers). I know conference records don't effect tourney selection, but it does impact perception. it would be nice if Nebraska had the feather in their cap of another couple of road conference wins just to get rid of that talking point. Or maybe the B1G wants Nebraska to be that bottom-feeding team, but we won't cooperate?

DePaul has to be the worst P5 team ever.  And that’s sad to see.

However road record is part of the overall team sheet.  So if I am comparing teams and I see a team has 3 road wins and I look at the bottom and two are DePaul and GTown… while the other only has 2 at KState and Indiana… I know which one I’m picking.

Whoever that was on the radio I think is mistaken. I don't think the committee is really counting road games against Depaul and Georgetown at this point. The top 9 teams in the Big East just create more opportunities for high quality wins this year, which is keeping all their bubble teams alive.

They actually did have games that went down to the wire or were somewhat in question against South Carolina and Northwestern early in the year. I have no idea how.

That happened to us when we were bummedout about being jammed into the NIT on the raod against an MSU team we beat in the pre-season.

Teams react differently to being "relegated" to the lower tourney.
