Indeed, the D is pretty much a skeleton right now.  Too many give and go's for easy layups.

Someone on the bench needs to remind them there's a phase of the game called defense.  Atrocious so far.  More ole's than a bullfight.

Switching to a zone has been a success.  Petrie has given us a spark. 9-0 run to take a lead.

The Illini have figured out our zone.  As trite as it sounds it appears we are going to have to outscore them.

At least for a couple possessions.  If they don't pick up the effort on that end, they're done for.

Unless we can get some stops it’s an uphill climb.  Our three point percentage is weak and we are missing too many shots at the rim.

 

Illinois is exposing our lack of quickness.

Just my guess, but that may be as good as ILL can play. Don't think they can duplicate that in the 2nd half.

 

But.... they're at home...makes a big difference.

Needless to say, UI has had too many easy ways to score.  When NU does have an open look, a lot have been in and out.  Going to have to figure out something at the half as their quickness, as I was afraid of, has been an advantage beating us off the dribble and getting to spots for open looks.  GBR!

Their guards are so much quicker than ours. Moriarity and White were staying in front of them, but they haven’t played many minutes. Shelly is back to launching up threes early in the offensive possession, which is something we don’t need right now. Do what is working, which is feed Markowski.

I think NU had 2 fouls in the first 18 minutes.  Indicates how soft they were on defense.  Need to come out in 2nd half and play with more physicality.

We never seem to play well after a long lay-off.   Illinois last lost to Mich State 2/29;  We last played 2/24, beating Minnesota
