2021 Husker Football Outlook

And the sad part is that no QB behind Martinez has any experience. You can live with mistakes from a freshman but not a 3-time captain. Add in the play calling...ugh. I knew when they were down by 14 they would just try  to grow it. Imagine when you try to run it! And he goes the distance. The best coaches make their players better and put them in a position to excel. If they come back, we will see.

Different year, same story.  How can I stop getting false hope this year will be different.   

 

Mistakes so far that have cost us

 

Fielding a punt inside the 5, costs us 2 points

Roughing the passer and taunting, leads to 7 points (debatable on the roughing the passer, but you can't taunt)

Fumble by Martinez when he just needs to go down cost us 7 points

 

That's 16 points we gave them.  You CANNOT do that and expect to win.

One team has had a coach for 3 years.  The other coach is coaching for his 1st year.

 

The team with the 4th year coach is down 14, and made too many mistakes.

It doesn't matter how fast our guys can run, or much weight they can lift, if they keep making the same mistakes.

I go into these games expecting to lose more than to win.

 

Most of these losses are expected (which, I guess, is embarrassing in itself).

Another missed extra point, another bad snap, a holding call when we get into Illinois territory.   This has to end.  Alberts needs to let the golden child go.

Completely right. The other team can’t be in our heads because we are in our own heads so much. There’s no room!

How come these commentators keep crediting these other teams, when Nebraska hands the game on a silver platter to them.

It's going to take a hell of a lot more than the basketball team can muster in one year to overtake the volleyball team.

When a team tries to give the game to us we don't take it.

I looked up "Nebraska football" in the dictionary after the loss today. And the entry just said "See: apathy".

Good news is that Trev’s job became a whole lot easier. It use to be “oh man…I’d hate to be the guy who might have to fire Scott Frost.” Now it’s the exact opposite

Mistake after mistake.  That, once again, was quite fugly.  Bright spots occurred, but man.

I'm more excited about any San Jose State basketball this fall than I am about watching another Husker football game this season.

Here's a sobering stat.  Our RB's had 19 carries.  7 of those carries came on our last TD drive.  6 carries came in the 1st quarter.  6 carries by RB's in the 2nd and 3rd quarters.

Here's the yards per rush by our RB's

 

1st Quarter

1, 0, 11, 1, 1, 7

 

2nd Quarter

2TD, 1, 6, 4

 

3rd Quarter

5, (1)

 

4th Quarter

2, 2, 7, 0, 5, 0, 0

 

No attempt to establish the run, again.

 

Let's compare that to Illinois

 

1st Quarter

(2), (3), 3, 1, 45, 2

 

2nd Quarter

6, 3, (1), 4, 12, 3, 0, 5, 3, 4, 2, 1TD, 5

 

3rd Quarter

3, 15, 7, 2, 2, 3, 0, 1, 2, 1, 5

 

4th Quarter

5, 7, 7, 4, (1), 9, 4, (1), 3, 1

 

I was expecting different results.  It felt like they were able to wear our defense down.  That doesn't show it, though.
