Agree with this. I think I said this in another thread after the southern win but I'll say it again. I do believe the talent is being unleashed and it's exactly what needed to happen. When Molinari came on board with his gum it up style and pack line defense it seemed we went away from the trapping and transition game. I believe the gummy style is a necessity when you're at a lesser school with lesser talent. You really need to mess the game up to give your lesser athletes a chance in games.

We have athletes. We went toe to toe with Indiana and Maryland. We have players. I'm glad this staff seems to have realized that they just need to let our athletes go out and play.

We were playing packline before Mollinari came.

Proving things aren't fluky nor giving signs don't matter for a tournament resume though. You need a combination of good wins and lack of bad losses. Winning the first two in conference is important simply because we need so many.

Whether or not we're seeing a team coming together is a semi-related aspect of what these wins count for

I would say it's more than "Semi-Related" - ha. And, yes, of course, the 'good' wins and 'bad' losses are important. Nebraska also has a lot of good losses, remember. It's a melting pot of phenomena that gets NU to this point in time. I like to think in the positive notion that the Huskers may be starting something...

As we all know, Nebrasketball went on a spectacular run from 9-9 to 19-11 within the Big Ten. Thus, it very well could be a sign of things to come. Or, it could be more fluky in nature.

I guess, but you have to build on it.  If they don't get it done at home it won't matter.  2 down.  16 to go.  A lot of conference games left.

Exactly. You *have to* start somewhere. On the road at Indiana and Maryland are as good as NU could have done to open up B1G play. I tend to see that this team 'could' be on to something. It's somewhat ethearal in this context, but there's really no reason to believe that the team could be great or it could be a dud in the end - it's up in the air, for sure. We shall see. I'm positive that NU will fight for everything it's able to achieve. And if it's great, we'll be sitting fat & happy after winning in the Big Dance~! :D

Since 2002 (the furthest back the KenPom records go) we've started league play:

2-0 2005, 2006, 2017

1-0 2009, 2011

0-2 2002, 2003, 2007, 2015

0-3 2004, 2016

0-4 2008, 2012, 2014

0-5 2010, 2013

Which kind of helps illustrate the futility of the past 15 years; even in '05 and '06 the 2-0 starts weren't just terribly impressive.  The 2-0 starts on this list are:

2005 - #73 Kansas St. (2OT) and #112 @Colorado

2006 - #46 Oklahoma and #77 @Kansas St.

2017 - #24 @Indiana and #59 @Maryland

It's early, and I know we can't read a whole lot into any of it, but 2017 conference play is starting off a significantly different deal altogether.

One great example of a change by the staff was seeing Horne not get pulled after giving up a couple 3's. I love that the staff is letting our guys play!! Let's keep this train rolling!

He was sat down twice immediately after defensive lapses and if I remember correctly, he did not see the floor again after giving up a four point play. Btw - I agree with those decisions.

In games we lost+Dayton Anton Gill was

4-5 10 pt Dayton

1-10 3 pt UCLA

2-6 6 pt VT

0-4 0 pt Clemson

2-3 4 pt Creighton

2-6 7 pt Kansas

1-7 2 pt Gardner Webb

Similarly for Jack McVeigh

1-5 5 pt Dayton

0-8 1 pt UCLA

2-9 5 pt VT

0-2 0 pt Clemson

2-8 7 pt Creighton

0-0 0 pt Kansas

1-6 3 pt Gardner Webb

That's 12-38 31.6% for Gill and 6-38 15.8% for McVeigh. In these close games is having Horne, Roby, and others take those minutes the difference? I think so.

Disclaimer: If I added up the totals wrong my bad. :)

If we are playing an eight man rotation, it is more seamless to remove a player for a mistake and then reinsert the player without much time on the bench.  The minute distribution against both Indiana and Maryland seemed very reasonable given roles, positions and performance.
