Here's a simple rule of thumb: if you are a coach, and you play a non-entertaining style with some local players and win, you keep your job. If you play a non-entertaining style without local players and win, you probably keep your job.  If you play an entertaining style without local players and win, you keep your job. If you play an entertaining style with local players and don't win, you might keep your job.

If, however, you play a non-entertaining style, have no local players, and don't win, you will become a former coach, 100% of the time.

Hmm.  There is truth to your wisdom grasshopper.  That said, if you win, you stay...but the moment you lose you are gonzo.  And if you don't win a lot, you are likely gonzo.  And there are few programs that have such a limited access to local talent then Nebraska.  In the Big Ten, arguably we may be the only program that has limited availability to local talent...and if we don't get that talent, you are likely gonzo.  We have leaked oil significantly in the Omaha/Lincoln area.  Not sure who or what started the landslide, but it is currently cascading out of control.

Heck, most coaches are eventually gonzo.  Unless your name is Wooden, Dean Smith or Coach K...you are likely gonzo .

Bottom line, most coaches win, lose or draw will lose their job at some point.  Heck even the best are under pressure if they have a down year.
