Ok I'll think outside of the box again - why do we have to do it like everyone else? "Retire" jerseys, maybe not numbers unless they do something highly specific. Struck, Lue, and Hamilton should have jerseys hanging in our rafters. Don't care what anyone says.

Actually, that is exactly what the football team does. Retire the jersey, more often than not; Very few numbers officially retired.

Well, I'm going to get some down arrows on this, but I'll say it. Why are we talking about hanging jerseys from the rafters? Because we think it will help recruiting? I think Lue is a legit call since he was a top-level player and now an NBA championship coach, I pause at any more.

Do we really want to honor guys who were all-conference but didn't help us to a conference title or an NCAA championship win? Do we really want to set the bar so low on jerseys? To me, it's like saying this is all we'll ever be.

No it's not. You can honor your past and acknowledge there have been great players that have come through here, which there have, while still striving to exceed what's been done. The two aren't mutually exclusive. You can do some sort of Ring (Hoop?) of Honor that recognizes the best players that have ever come through the program. It doesn't prevent you from still pushing the bar higher. I say, yes, we do want to honor those guys.

I agree Lue numbers at NU are worthy of a banner hanging in the rafters.  I disagree that his NBA playing and coaching career should have any factor in the decision.

I'm all for honoring guys. A ring of honor is fine. It's hanging jerseys from the rafters that I question. I think we need a higher standard than guys who had conference honors.

Hang white jerseys for guys who were just really good and had fantastic careers beyond Husker hoops. Retire red jerseys for guys who met certain criteria

And then retire black jerseys for non-affiliated players such as Lebron James for good measure.
