I agree, the Cyclones were hosed in Auburn Hills. CBS wanted Michigan St. in the Finals. I cannot blame Eustachy for going nuts as the foul on Marcus Fizer for setting a screen was bogus at the least. I didn't have much sympathy for MSU fans whining that Texas in 2003 was playing in San Antonio to advance to the Final Four.

I am very cautious about the prospects for the future. NU will be a good, competitive team but I have my doubts that it will be a championship contender in the B1G. Maryland and Ohio St. will still be the class of the league with their athleticism and recruiting. One player in the league that I am very impressed by is Carly Wagner of Minnesota. That game winning shot against OSU the other night was a fantastic basketball play by anyone at any level. Minnesota was able to do a decent job defending OSU. If NU can improve defensively against the teams that have superior athletes then the future could be brighter.

Is there much hope for next year? Will Gill actually be an upgrade from Shields? Who is going to take Benny Parker's minutes? Are the young players going to improve enough incrementally for NU to advance in the conference standings? Are the two incoming freshman difference makers? I say this not to be critical. Just wondering.

Game Day Essentials: Game #29 vs Penn St.
Cazzie22 replied to hhcmatt's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
This is going to be a tough game to win. Penn St. seems to be playing very well at home. -
My dream is to make the NCAA Tournament and at least win a game there! It is a tough league to keep up with from year to year. We may return quite a few players next year but that is no guarantee of a vastly improved record. I am hopeful that NU can be in the top quartile of the conference which should earn an NCAA bid.

This is the point in the season where Chandler Smith's departure really, really hurts. She would have been at point guard. I'm anxious, yet optimistic that the Huskers will play well Wednesday night against IU.
-
Purdue was good on defense today and the Huskers just didn't have an answer. A couple of days of practice with the new lineup should yield a better offensive performance against IU. It would be tough for any team to lose two starters and play well.

On the fashion scene it is difficult for coaches to keep up with Sherry Coale of OU and Kim Mulkey of Baylor!

Ohio St. (17-10) vs Nebraska (14-13) Game Thread

Are traveling violations ever called in college BB anymore on drives to the basket? The amount of extra steps is alarming to a basketball purist. It must be the desire to add scoring to the game. Has the rule changed to two complete steps? Or more? Good effort by NU tonight. It is difficult to win without any post scoring. -
Christie Brinkley, Elle McPherson and Kathy Ireland will always make me happy! So for that I am thankful to SI.
-
After watching tonight's game, I wouldn't be too high on an 11-7 finish.
-
NU had to give up the 3's or be torched on the drive to the basket. You have to pick your poison against a team like OSU. Both were deadly tonight.
-
As Al McGuire would say it was "an M and M er" A total mismatch. OSU is so much more athletic than NU. NU cannot be a threat to win a conference championship while Shephard is in school unless we put more athletic players around her. NU can match up with some of B1G but not Maryland and OSU. That being said, I like this team but even with a strong finish the NCAA committee will look at all of these blow out losses and probably observe that the Huskers are not deserving of an invitation.

uneblinstu's Post Game Chatter: Vol 8, Issue 25 - @ Indiana
Cazzie22 replied to uneblinstu's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Should we be concerned about the number of Technical Fouls on Coach Miles? Is he earning a reputation as a whiner or is he just fighting for the team? -
I was able to watch Kaylee Page and K-State in Austin tonight against Texas. The Wildcats played well and nearly pulled off an upset. Kaylee played a wing in a diamond and one defense that the was used to slow down Texas guard Brooke McCarty. She did not have a big night scoring but looks like she will be a solid player for KSU the next couple of years.
-
Mitchell will get her points no matter the player guarding her and Alston is a major threat. OSU will be way too much for us in Columbus. Not very many good match-ups for NU.

I have not watched all of the game, but that late run at the end of the first half was a killer. IU has guys that can knock down the 3. It seemed to me that NU played a decent first half, save the final 4 minutes. This team can compete and possibly on the neutral floor at the B1G Tournament knock off a top team. -
Sulamon (spelling) at Maryland might get some newcomer votes. White or Shields should receive some All B1G mention. Watson and maybe Jacobson will get some all-Freshmen mention. The above awards are nice but I'd like to see the team get hot down the stretch like two years ago and move up the standings.
-
It will be a challenge to see if the team and the fans can rebound against MSU. Both teams should be very hungry for a victory. Sparty might be tired from the make-up game in their schedule. Not much to say about tonight's game other than we needed 111.
-
I had to watch the replay. Some good things despite playing with a short bench. The young guys are growing up and Wisconsin is a veteran team. Playing zone is going to allow 3 point shots and "Bucky Badger" can knock them down. It is tough for me to be critical of White as I like his floor presence, attitude, work on the boards and selflessness. Do I wish he could take people off the dribble? Yes, but I am pleased that he is a Husker. I don't think we should have expected to win tonight without Shields and Ed Morrow not playing a minute.
-
Kaylee Jensen of Genoa, NE played an excellent game in Austin tonight against Texas. 15 pts. 10 rebounds against two quality bigs employed by Texas. Oklahoma St. lost 70-55 but this young lady held her own. I believe she played at Lindsay Holy Family.
-
I certainly hope this team can make the NCAA's. It would be a pleasant and surprising accomplishment considering the injuries this season.

The NU Women's BB program is in excellent hands with Coach Yori! Are we going to compete with Maryland and OSU for the top athletes? Probably not. But NU has a great anchor to build around for the next 3 years. Next class is bringing in the wings and guards necessary to push NU forward. Injuries and defections have cost this team more than any other issue. Connie is going to recruit girls to fit her program and anyone can see that ideally NU plays a fun, uptempo, fan friendly style. Most of the other NU programs need to "catch up" to the success of Women's BB under Coach Yori! She is a bargain.

I believe this is a fairly accurate assessment of the remainder of the season.
