I tend to agree with Dan Dakich's assessment of NU this season. Too many mistakes, too many forced shots from key players. There is talent on the roster. I would like to see the ball pushed more up court because the Huskers tended to be inept often in half court offense. The downside to that is more possessions per game usually favors the more talented team. Watson might be the key to next year. He could be the ball handler and playmaker the team desperately needs.
-
NU probably turns the ball over too often to play the running transition game but it seems to me we were more effective,( being a relative term), on offense than our setting up and trying to execute in the half court. Penn State was playing better at the end of the season and it is not a shock to lose this game. The future is not terribly bright nor is it bleak. I guess it is cloudy (no offense to Stan)

If Shephard is healthy then Havers might be able to handle a starting role. I don't think Shephard can be ready for the Australia trip and Theriot might not be either. So some interesting combos might be needed.
-
Chandler Smith is being groomed to take over for Theriot. She has some good instincts for the game and has nice size. She will blossom next year though it is going to be a tough season for NU unless Jessica Shephard is very, very good from the beginning.

The Ohio State University women's BB team is going to be scary good the next few years. It will be difficult for Nebraska to keep pace with them and Maryland. That was quite a game with Maryland pulling it out in the end.
-
A disappointing season but not a bad effort against a very good Maryland team. Melo Trimble is an amazing player, hope he goes pro, and Dez Wells sank a great shot. Better free throw shooting might have saved the day. I liked the fact we took the ball to the rim and didn't always settle for the jump shot. Penn St. will be a tough test as they will be coming off a road win at Minnesota.

Too many sloppy passes in the early part of the 2nd half turned the game around. Iowa is tough and they were tougher on the boards and after loose balls tonight. Lady Huskers played tough to the end but werer probably on fumes late. It would very disappointing if this group doesn't get to play in the NCAA tournament.
-
Is that a legit question about playing Romeo or are you being snarky? It was unfair of me to pile on. I was being snarky! Natalie and all the Huskers played well tonight. Good shooting does tend to overcome some poor play.
-
Natalie had a fine all around game. Loved the drive to the hoop for the traditional 3 point play. Pulled down a few first half rebounds and handled the Illini pressure well. She needs to bring her "A" game tomorrow night.
-
I wonder why we played Romeo so much tonight! Great effort by the Lady Huskers! A little sloppy at times. Brandi Jeffrey's 8 assists were impressive. Hopefully we can lock up Melissa Dixon tomorrow and shoot well enough to stay in the game.

uneblinstu's post game chatter: ed 7, vol 28 - Illinois

I liked the fight the team showed against the Illini. Too bad the hot shooting start to the 2nd half couldn't continue for a few minutes longer. Good shooting cures many evils. Smith gave us a post presence and made some nice plays. All we can ask is that the Huskers keep giving a good effort. -
I think Purdue has an excellent class coming in next year. They probably won't be down long.
-
Iowa plays a fun style of basketball. Ohio St. v Iowa in the semis would be a heck of a game. That being said, NU, providing we can get by Illinois, matches up better with Iowa than OSU. Tournament time is all about match-ups.
-
???????? Granted, she is not a great defender, but she is tough and usually a consistent scoring threat. How many players do we have that can create their own shot? Laudermill. NU relies on complimentary players to use movement and find the open man and help on defense. Romeo is our best to fill iin for Theriot.
-
Ohio State is scary good. Athletic teams have always hurt NU. It will be tough to keep pace with some of the teams in this league. The 4 Seniors are going to be missed tremendously. Imagine, Illinois beat OSU so the game Wednesday will be difficult with Ivory Crawford back from injury.
-
Has Coach Miles "lost" this team? If so, with most returning, will that endanger next season?
-
Nice win. Frankly, I didn't believe we could score enough to beat Minnesota. The Gophers didn't seem to have much in the tank tonight. I noticed Chandler Smith getting 7 rebounds and some nice assists. Romeo is a gem.
-
Poor execution last 4 minutes nearly cost a game that should not have been close. Play was way too conservative, you have to try to score. NU is much better in transition than set offense. Thank goodness Romeo was clutch at the free throw line.

uneblinstu's Post Game Chatter: ed 7, vol 26 - Maryland
Cazzie22 replied to uneblinstu's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Just watched the game on replay as I missed the original time. Some good things by NU in this game that gives me hope that the team might come together in the next few games. Pitchford hitting shots was big but getting some offensive rebounds was a big help. Fuller was able to match up on defense and was not a liability at that end. Kudos to Pettaway for the 9 assists. -
Sad news. Lady Huskers are not the same team without her and I doubt they get selected for the NCAA's unless they can beat IU on the road and both OSU and Minnesota at home. That is doubtful. Committee will have to look at the end of the season and NU is just not playing that well. I hope I'm wrong.
-
If Theriot cannot play the rest of the year the Huskers may not make the NCAA's. The remaining schedule is not good. You want to avoid Maryland's bracket if at all possible. Good experience will be gained by Romeo, Cincore and Smith for the future.
-
Hailee Sample is tough! 10 rebounds and 8 points on a bad ankle. Never underestimate her contributions to this team. NW is tough to beat there and IU may be a problem without Theriot.
-
I would view criticism and "bashing" as two entirely different levels. T.P. has been a wonderful player for Nebraska and is effort is always to be admired. I hope he comes back for another year (he clearly is not ready to play in the NBA) but would like to have him develop a better handle on dealing with his frustrations.
-
To be fair Norm, I was more frustrated with how we were playing and probably didn't pay as much attention to the officiating. I agree, the officiating is inconsistent, more so in the Women's game than the Men's. I watched on TV and if you saw the game in person you had a better overall view.

Melissa Dixon's 3's were major daggers!
