It's about time for some off-topic
jimmykc replied to Norm Peterson's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Since this thread has already headed way off-road, those Cub fans who may want some reading matter while they eat should check out the new Ernie Banks book reviewed in tomorrow's LJS. Just be sure not to get sauce on the pages. -
OK, I don't plan to read the article but to be complete the writer should have tried to talk with both Riggins and Moos to get their opinions. Did he? Even the old "no comment" can be used effectively to imply a journalistic point. On the face of it, the appearance is that the AD simply didn't want this head coach to call the shots. Did anyone think otherwise after last year's one year extension? Would Moos have tried this maneuver if the coach's name had been Pitino, Self, Izzo, or Knight? Undoubtedly, there would have been broken furniture. Any "rule" can be circumvented if the person enforcing it wants to do so badly enough. Basically this "bombshell revelation" appears to rank right up there with Moe's "newspapers- over- Mable Hall-windows" and Danny's "Jose Ramos- ate- two- steaks" revelations. Now let's roll out the ball and finish out the end of this disappointing season for better or worse.

It doesn't take much of an arm chair psychologist to sense some passive-aggressive animosity between AD and coaching staff. I'm sure players are sensitive enough to pick up on this and use this to scapegoat someone for failures. doubt the seal would have made a whole lot of difference unless he was teaching players to land on two feet after dunking though.

Curious about NU's futility

I would postulate that the volleyball team has surpassed the baseball team on the 'big three" list at NU. -
Nebraska (15-13) vs. Michigan (24-4) Game Thread
jimmykc replied to Bugeaters1's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Well, I did manage to get through this thread which was about as pleasurable as having a breakfast of cold, leftover poutine. We have three more games to get through before my Moonlight Graham avatar can come out of the dugout. I will continue to hope for a pleasant surprise yet this season but the emphasis is decidedly on the "surprise" part. -

Where will we be seeded in the B1G tournament?
jimmykc replied to Handy Johnson's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Miles vs Chambers III. Sort of like Ali-Frazier. Too bad Howard Cosell isn't still around. -
Also was probably the first father-son double technical in NCAA history.

In some parallel universe Walter Bishop is smiling.

Wow, kldm64, you really have your mind made up. Ok, using your reasoning, and still dealing with the alternative universe, lets say the team gets hot at the end of the year, wins all of its final games, and becomes NCAA champion. Would you still let him go because of the "failures" he has had over the past 7 seasons??
-
I think you mean no "realistic way". If we sweep the last three regular season games and lose in the finals of the Big Ten tourney and still get invited to the NCAA, then it would be hard to fire him. This actually could happen in an alternative universe like the one in "Fringe" ( a show I still miss).

I must just "shut down" at times.

Had we practiced more on our one-second defense we would have won this one. -
Game Day Essentials: Game #28 vs Purdue
jimmykc replied to hhcmatt's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Wonder if BTN plans to bump the Lacrosse game scheduled in that time slot, or just go to one of their other channels? With our luck Penn St/Illinois will go four overtimes. -
Maybe HHC should send her a bouquet of flowers using Roby's name. Here's hoping the romantic flame continues to burn brightly.
