Nebraska Fans-the best in the country!?
jimmykc replied to jimmykc's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Polish Rifle: My point exactly. Fans are fans, and I'm sure we all think we are the best when we are winning. Just trying to poke the hive when mass apathy showed up this morning on HHC. -
Thoughts after my delayed viewing of last night's debacle: 1. The mass exodus of fans reminded me of the Oklahoma State football game in Callahan's last year. 2. Even the Big10 announcers were appalled by the exodus.3. Believe me, I understand the frustration, but I have seen many college games in many venues and I have always believed the Nebraska fans were no different than most other fans-gracious when things are going good, not so much when we are losing. 4. No need to humiliate the team any more than already had been done-it wasn't getting any colder during the few minutes it takes to walk to the door. 5. We may be the best fans in America at stalking out early, though. 6. Hope I don't get too many down votes, but I have always thought calling ourselves the "best fans" was a somewhat arrogant claim.

NU 54, PU 74 I think we will still see some "W"'s this year. Saturday will not be one of them. -

Even HHC stalwarts seem too exhausted to post much of interest. -
OK, now is everybody happy?

Maryland (17-6) vs. Nebraska (13-9) Game Thread

Just finished watching the game on tape. My observation was "yikes". That's all folks. -
Somewhere Bill Walton softly weeps.

Maybe they had to go back to deliverymen since they began stocking that "chunky milk" I've been hearing about.

It seems to me that Coach Miles' biggest coaching mistake this year was in not telling his players not to attempt a dunk after hearing the referee blow his whistle. Before the year started I predicted it would be the best year ever if none of our big three seniors got an injury. Copeland did, and it is now like trying to use a three legged milking stool with one leg gone. Some milk spillage is inevitable. Unless this team loses the remainder of its games and completely tanks, I see enough pieces in place for next year that I would offer another one year contract. However, I am beginning to see enough impatience in the fan base, donors, and administration that I fear they will begin cutting the wood to assemble a new milking stool. If so, let's hope we get milkshakes and not curds and whey. (And I want some up votes from outstate for the agriculture analogy).

HHCC Game #23 - vs. Maryland (Feb. 6, 6:00 PM CST)

NU-65, Maryland-73 With six consecutive wrong predictions, I will attempt the old reverse-jinx move. -
I failed to note a listing on the Illinois game. and I looked toward the bottom since I remember picking us to win. Nevermind-I checked and must have not pushed the "submit" button. I would have been wrong anyway.

This thread deteriorated rapidly.

I (obviously) am not against message boards-at least not this one. However, if we should win the majority of our next games, this thread would be irrelevant. And my comments were tongue in cheek in case you didn't notice-I don't even know if Dave Bliss is still alive. Nevertheless, people are welcome to post whatever they like, even if I don't agree with it.

If Indiana can beat Michigan State, I refuse to throw in the towel just yet, so all of this speculation is too premature to consider at this point. If people are just drawing names from a hat and flinging them against the wall to see who sticks, then I think we can add John Groce, Danny Manning, Eddie Sutton, and Dave Bliss to the group along with Sampson who was fired at two previous stops which included one at a Big10 school. Or we could just throw our hands up and roll out the carpet for Ernie Kent. Lets see how the remainder of the year plays out first, huh?

Coughunter: Ok, I watched it on E-bay delayed viewing or DVR with the red record button pleasure setting or the special spying device which Google uses on all of us, or something the Russian trolls set up for me to watch. Whatever you call it, I wish it hadn't worked!

I'm not removing the "?" yet. was not at home to see game and just watched it on tape. Too disappointed to say much else tonight.

To make a point I already made on a different thread, I patiently waited through 51 years of bad baseball and had prepared to accept the fact that I would never live to see a Red Sox World Series win. Suddenly in 2004, it came out of nowhere to my huge surprise. Since then I have seen three more, and last year they won 119 games! So you never know what sporting life, and life in general, may yet hold.

Wisconsin (14-6) vs. Nebraska (13-7) Game Thread
jimmykc replied to Bugeaters1's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Slog on men. And Cip, I felt this way about the Red Sox for 51 years...and then struck the mother lode. -
Nothing to do at this point, but roll the dice and see what happens. I'm curious to see what playing as an underdog with an "us against everyone else" mentality does to this team.
-
And let us not forget Moe Iba's last year. When Hoppen blew out his knee and was lost for the rest of the year, everyone gave up and assumed the season was over and that Moe would go. Instead, the team rallied to finish strong enough to make the NCAA, allowing Moe to resign with dignity intact and move to a good gig at TCU. So anything can happen if things begin to bounce right for this team, which still has enough good players to compete with anyone we play on our home court.
