  1. If these quotes from Bryce don't get you excited, not sure what else will!!! On being the highest ranked recruit in program history: "It's an honor," McGowens said. "It means that I have a chance to be a trendsetter. I want to attract the best players in the country to come to Nebraska." On his fit in the program "I feel like I can make a major impact from day one, doing whatever is needed to elevate the program to put us in a position to win a championship," McGowens said. "That's the goal. I've always prided myself on winning and we expect to be competing for a championship next season. I also want my impact to go further than the court, where kids across the country view Nebraska as a program to take serious." So, anyone know how I can pre-order 2022 final four tickets?!?! https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/30310425/bryce-mcgowens-no-33-becomes-nebraska-highest-ranked-commit
  2. HALLELUJAH!!! I always knew unicorns existed because it seems like we finally landed one. Many have suggested this was the hopeful end game all along in bringing Trey here. Trey seems like a very good player in his own right and if this was part of the master plan for Fred and company, kudos to them for quite the coup!!!!! It is always a great day to be a fan, but this one feels especially good. The trajectory of the program looks unbelievable. Now we just have to put it together on the court, something I have no doubt Fred can pull off.
  3. fans pooled their money to raise $100G in anticipation. Oh wait, you said Husker nation, not Creighton nation. My bad, I have nothing.
  4. I am fully expecting McGowens to be N as well and I'm trying to figure out how this will still end in some sort of horrible kick to the balls. After committing, I would not be surprised if one of the following happens: 1) McGownens is abducted by aliens, never to be seen again 2) During a 2021 preseason team building event at Lake McConaughy, McGowens has his shooting arm eaten by a shark 3) During a preseason scrimmage at Prairie View, Cam Mack hits a game winning 3 and shoots an arrow that hits McGowens in the heart. It's 2020 and Nebrasketball, the possibilities are endless!!!
  5. I agree that Big 10 conference/approval is an unknown but disagree that the Orlando tournaments that were cancelled is any sort of indicator for Nebraska's tournament. Keep in mind that the big obstacle for Orlando, from what I know, is that teams from various conferences could not agree on testing parameters and protocols. These tournaments were organized by various tournament sponsors at least a year in advance and before covid was a reality. It's not surprising that a collection of teams placed into a tournament could not agree on testing as different conferences have different requirements and, more importantly, resources. Teams that choose to participate in Nebraska's tournament will have to abide by testing parameters and protocols that were established in advance; meaning, these teams know what they are signing up for and will have to abide by a unified set of rules established from the outset. The teams in the Orlando tournaments did not have this luxury. Regarding fan interest, I would suspect there is strong interest in this basketball team and tournament regardless of whether fans can attend. The koolaid is flowing this season, much more than before last season, and I think there will be general excitement to see how much better this team is. Remember, Doc warned us last year before the season that "Rome wasn't built in a day". There were no such warnings to heed this year and based on the mood of this board and from what I've read and heard from local reporters, it sounds like there is general optimism this team will definitely be better and perhaps sneaky good. Anyways, maybe I'm in the minority, but I'm super excited for basketball in less than a month!
  6. So wait, you are going to propose to Bryce when he commits and steps foot on campus? Weird
  7. Found this nugget, which hopefully bodes well!!! https://247sports.com/college/nebraska/Article/Nebraska-makes-Top-5-for-Bryce-McGowens-on-Monday-153263380/
  8. Maybe population density and the ratio of rednecks to normal people have something to do with it as well?
  9. I don't understand why you can't buy all 3 off your options plus the knife, miter saw, fishing tackle and the upgrade in basketball seats. Just live the American dream and purchase all of them on your credit card, make the bare minimum monthly payment, and then leave all of these great toys to your family when you pass along with the remaining debt. Seems like a win-win for everyone!! Well, maybe its more of a win for you, but when you're dead, at least you've lived a hell of a life.
  10. Yes, therein lies the problem. The question is would you be comfortable if Fred asked Arop to leave the program if it meant getting this high end of a player. If this ever did come to pass, I wouldn't necessarily pass harsh judgement on Fred and I'm not exactly really sure how I would feel about it. That's the business of big time college athletics and I'm sure this stuff happens all the time in football but its more easily concealed and less talked about with a roster of 80+ on scholarship.
  11. My recollection was that, in addition to the 7 ft wingspan, he also has a 40 inch vertical. Well, that is a hair more explosive than my abilities but to each their own in passing judgement
  12. Completely agree. Even though we offered a year ago, it just feels like we are a little late to this party. Fortunately, the party isn't over so perhaps we get to take the girl, or ugh mythical unicorn home with us. We are overdue here!!!
  13. Well, looks like we are going to have to make up some ground and make a strong push as he doesn't list us as schools that are pushing hard for his services. Hopefully, our open scholarship and immediate path to some playing time are attractive enough to him. He looks like he already has some muscle mass as well, which bodes well for his development. https://www.zagsblog.com/2020/04/18/gabe-wiznitzer-still-considering-reclassification-talks-recruitment/
  14. I really hope we land him but I'm not as optimistic as I was several weeks ago. It feels like every team's fan base in his final six all feel confident that Sanogo will land at their school. Yesterday the OWH put out the article below. The timing of the article seems ironic considering what Hoiberg said today. Myabe I'm reading too much into it but I wonder if Heady has some inside information and that Sanogo is likely going to land elsewhere. If we find out next week that is the case, Heady looks pretty smart and can point to the article he just wrote about why we don't need a big man in Hoiberg's system - which, I actually agree with. Anyways, I hope I'm wrong as this kid seems like the unique big that runs the court in a way that would be very conducive to Hoiberg's system. https://www.omaha.com/sports/college/huskers/plus/nebraska-basketball-doesnt-need-a-big-man-its-worked-for-fred-hoiberg-before/article_2b718a30-2f71-518f-ba93-95cebd4ca0ab.html
  15. Ha, I guess not everyone can shoot 75% plus. He did shoot almost 43% from three and a whopping 56% from the field. He's a good shooter so a year off likely fixes or improves the FT%. I'm sure we are placing feelers.
  16. That was my initial thought as well but having thought about it, I don't think that is going to be a determining factor. Hypothetically, if he reclassifies to 2020 and the 2020-2021 season is cancelled, he's still a freshman when the 2021-2022 season starts. A cancelled season simply means he gets an extra year of free room and board, gets a year's worth of classes under his belt, and gets the likely benefit of using the basketball facilities and weight room while maintaining his 4 years of eligibility. And, if the college season is cancelled, i suspect most high school seasons will be as well. Perhaps he's just debating whether or not he wants to skip a year of high school and leave his family and friends a year early.
  17. Found this perusing the internet and it looks like we may be waiting awhile on this one
  18. Surprising considering Creighton pays more than the G league.
  19. So roughly the equivalent of 100x more than we brought back heading into last season! Also, I agree it sucks to see so many kids leaving but at the end of the day, we won 7 games last year. Things will get better.
  20. Is it just me or does this kid have the looks of someone that should play at Iowa?! I certainly hope he ends up here.
  21. Unfortunately that makes too much sense so I am very skeptical the NCAA allows it!
  22. Ok, sorry for multiple entries but this is too good to not share. HOWEVER, DISCLAIMER....this contains inappropriate language so do not play loudly at work or in front of kids!!!!
  23. Maybe it's just me but being locked down for months on end is leading to some binge/stress eating and some undesirable results. I suspect I am not alone so we should embrace the consequences!!
  24. I'm glad we are playing in Manhattan when will be a Top 10 team as opposed to playing them there as we are still putting the pieces in place! I'm mixing koolaid with several different varieties of alcohol to pass the shelter in place time!
  25. At one point I was focusing a lot of attention on Kate Upton but the feeling wasn't apparently mutual.
