HHCC Game #16 - vs. Illinois (Feb. 12, 8:00 CST)

Just trying to bring a little levity for the droughtful periods we will continue to experience over the rest of the season. Sometimes booze and nyquil is not enough.

I thought it first I read "droughtful" and it spurred the idea of a new submission to Wester's Dictionary: Droughtful (adjective) - in basketball, the likelihood of a made field goal at any point over the next four minutes of game action. Synonyms - Nebrasketball

I don't know. If we don't play these games, those are lost opportunities to improve our NCAA resume

Ok, at the beginning of last year, Doc said Rome wasn't built in a day. It wasn't built in one year or two years and I am a little skeptical of it being built in three years. So, does anyone really know how long it took to build Rome? I am trying to figure out how many liver transplants I may need between now and then.

Yes, exactly. In the last game thread I stated that I appreciated his renewed energy and effort but lamented the fact his basketball IQ really appears to be lacking. He is.not the only one though. I would throw Teddy in that bucket as well. At least Yvan dunked the ball tonight and didn't get blocked by the rim again.

HHCC Game #15 - vs. Wisconsin (Feb. 10, 8:30 CST)

I'm not sure that's good news or bad news for him. If he blew out the other knee, you know that's something that can be repaired and you can move on from. If his problematic knee won't stop giving him problems, that could just limit him going forward. It kind of reminds me of Tre Bryant and what he dealt with and what forced him to retire. I have no idea if the fact patterns are even remotely close besides it just being a knee issue. Hopefully this kid's knee can be cleaned up and he get back to playing normally again.

My first impression was that your first two paragraphs were a parody on some famous historical book/play/quote that I'm not well educated or well read enough to figure out. Then I kept reading and I really do think you've just hit a breaking point in your fandom. To each their own but I view my fandom as somewhere between eternal optimist and realist. I guess the one perspective I've learned over the past several years is that there is no point for me to live or die off of what a collection of 18-22 year olds do in a game or season. Sure, I get frustrated as most do on here but at the end of the day, I'm watching a product meant to entertain and take my mind off the stresses of the world. Now, you can question the "entertainment" aspect of this team. It's tough to watch this team at times but the eternal optimist in me says we're going to eventually round the corner in basketball (football - who knows). I believe in Fred like I believed in Miles and we had good moments under Miles. I hope that Fred finds the right formula and players to turn this program into a perennially competitive team that makes the big dance more often than not. The realist in me says this isn't as close as I want. But basketball is funny. You only start 5. One or two impact recruits with a nucleolus of role players can change your fortunes in a hurry. Fred put his first roster together in 30 days. I don't count that or the players we lost after year 1. That was year zero for me and Fred gets a complete pass from me. Last year stunk, this year is dreadful but I'm not writing off next year yet. See, there is the optimist in me coming out. The bottom line is that no one is forced to watch or consume the product. I enjoy Nebrasketball for what it is and has been for me over the past 6 years or so - which is several 2 hour stretches that I get to spend with my now 11 year old because I've brainwashed him to being a die hard fan and in being the eternal optimist as well (he is born and raised in Colorado, so this is no small feat!). I will consume every minute of every ugly loss for that one fact alone and the sun will still come up tomorrow

There you go cherry picking stats. Ok, so we haven't technically won a game in the Big in over a year. However, I would like to point out that we did not lose a big 10 game during the following months: April, May, June, July, August, September, October, and November. If you take away the other four more months, we've honestly held our own in conference.
