I don't know. Kind of damned if you do and damned if you don't. We don't have the size or bodies that can play one on one down low with anyone so we gamble that our opponents can't make threes. It worked against Iowa when they were awful but the strategy looks terrible when the other team is making shots. I also would contend we are slow in closing out on a lot of these tonight.

I am holding you personally responsible for any financial losses I may have tonight . BUT...15.5 seems like a ton of points for a team that doesn't score a lot themselves. Hopefully we get crack 50 and get close or over 60 because that would make the cover look very good. However, if any team could have a chance to win with under 2 minutes and find a way to not cover a 15.5 point spread, my money is on this team!

Ha, well that seems like a prisoner of the moment mentality and I agree the losing wears on the patience of a fan base that has been told to be patient since the beginning of time. Hopefully, they continue to redefine the culture, attitudes and the commitment needed in doing what it takes to get this program over one of the tallest humps in college basketball. I don't think many people established expectations at the beginning of the year that this would be a tournament team or even a very good team for that matter. The losing sucks but it isn't unexpected. I think we are going to have to measure progress this year based on the eye test and if this team is more competitive and perhaps a little more consistent in March than it was from November - January. That doesn't necessarily mean that results will be tangible in the form of more wins. It's more about buy in and setting the foundation for years 2 and 3 in my opinion. And, if we win a tournament game or two in year 3 or 4 or 5, will this 20+ loss season really matter in the grand scheme of things? That's the perspective I'm trying to have when I watch some downright awful basketball at times this year. I always try to keep the glass half full with whiskey or something stronger this season!!!

I guess who really cares if we lose 20+ games this year. In my opinion, it doesn't really change the narrative or future of the program. Hoiberg is in year 1 and to steal a phrase from PJ Fleck in Minnesota, we should really treat this as Year 0. When you're given a month to field a team, the lack of results shouldn't be surprising. I'm more encouraged by some of the performances we've seen against the likes of Iowa and Purdue knowing that these will be the exception this year and not the rule as we we will be very inconsistent all year. But, you can see an identity at times forming and its just going to take more dudes and time for this to completely come together. This is a process (when is it not for Nebrasketball!) and we're building towards year 2 and especially year 3. What's fascinating is that if you look at Lunardi's recent bracketology he has 11 BIG teams in the field and 1 more (Minnesota) as the first team out of the field. This is utterly astounding and is a good year to be rebuilding. I look forward and hope we can give our conference bubble teams a "bad loss" down the stretch. The conference certainly did us no favors a few years back when we were relegated to the NIT a after winning 22 games so hopefully we can pay it forward this year to a team or two!

@HuskerFever....I think you missed my Iowa pick. It wasn't very good, but should still count for something -

It's statistically obvious that do better against the top half of the league so it's a good thing we go on the road to play an angry Ohio St. team that's dropped 4 in a row! Grasping at straws here to keep the glass half full when it keeps getting knocked over -
This was the biggest concern I had heard about him since NU started recruiting him. His talent was never in question. Sure, Donovan does need to mature and I wish he would stop bashing Nebraska's recruiting of him or or us not wanting to recruit high school kids. However, he's no different than many 17 or 18 year old kids and I'm not sure if I, or many of us, would have had the maturity at his age to act any differently on twitter if a vocal minority of angry (likely adult!) fans were hammering me. I don't blame Donovan for this as much as perhaps him not having the right support staff around him to help understand the pitfalls of social media. Hopefully he matures like most teenagers and has a good career wherever he lands (unless it's Creighton!).

I think a good loss has the capability of moving us up a few spots and from the looks of the schedule we have lots of those ahead of us!!! -
HHCC Game #15 - vs. Iowa (Jan. 7, 8:00 PM CST)

Iowa - 84 NU - 70 4 Good thing the bonus wasn't the number of rebounds that Garza would have tonight because quantifying "all of them" would take some effort.
