Doane (5-9) Vs. Nebraska (3-2) Game Thread
Nebrasketball1979 replied to Bugeaters1's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
"Showdown" seems a little misleading. I would have gone with "smackdown", "beatdown", "bludgeoning" or "annihilation" but no one has ever given me the keys to a largely viewed social media platform and probably for good reason. I just hope everyone leaves the game healthy and gets some good game experience! -
Interesting takes on Lakes (not intentionally trying to go Dr. Seuss on all of you there) from Robin Washut's article: https://nebraska.rivals.com/news/fastbreak-husker-hoops-ready-for-final-big-ten-tuneup

I wonder if Trey threw his butt and hip into one of his trailing teammates as he was dribbling up the floor!!!

HHCC Game #07 - vs. Doane (Dec. 17, 6:00 PM CST)

Nebraska - 102 Doane - 58 -
This is such huge news if it comes to pass. I'm not sure what role Lakes plays but one has to think he takes some time from a combination of Yvan, Thor, Stevenson assuming he can still hit north of 40% from three at this level. We need floor spacers and guys that can knock down shots in the worst way.

Nebraska(3-2) vs. Creighton(3-1) Game Thread

Not sure if anyone caught the Nebraska bench right before the commercial break. Banton sprinted off the bench to encourage and pick up his teammates. That kid is a leader and will be a special one before his time is done. -

As Lee Corso says, I have a feeling the score will be closer than the experts think. I suspect we see the defensive intensity we lacked against GTech and then we hope to god Creighton doesn't get going in shooting the three ball tonight! GBR! -
How I loathe Creighton...(let us count the ways)

There are $100,0000 100,000 reasons to not like them! -
Yikes, this feels like decades of pent up frustration spewing out all at once. I truly hope that was therapeutic for you and you feel better. I honestly don't know, nor can anyone know, whether the conclusions you have drawn from a 5 game sample and applied over the remainder of the year will hold up. Even if we do only win somewhere between 0-5 BIG games this year, I'm still not sure you can draw such sweeping conclusions on the direction of the basketball program. A lot will depend on how the team looks, evolves, and improves as the year goes on. This team needs consistency, with a core group of players who return year in and year out. We can't continue to turn over 80%+ of our roster and expect sustainable success, unless we are truly recruiting at the levels of a blue blood, which I currently find unlikely. I have a feeling that Fred has identified a core group on the current roster to help build the necessary foundation. I suspect we still have 2-3 kids transfer out, which would be on par with national averages, but I do think we start to see some consistency in the roster. Keep in mind that Fred and his staff had to put together a team last season in something like 30 days. It's no surprise most of those kids have left. There was a reason most were available to Nebraska at such a late stage. I know this is cliché, but last year to me was really Year 0. This is year 1 with 1 full recruiting cycle under their belts. I do expect to see improvement this year but I've always said, as has many others on the board, that I don't expect this thing to really start to take off until next year. I'm excited about the future and will endure another year of growing pains because I do think the payoff is coming! And, I'm not sure how we really know what we have this year until Walker and Andre show us what they've got. Those are two big bodies we are dearly missing. I can't blame you for losing faith but man, you've stuck with Nebrasketball for likely decades. Fred is an elite coach, give him some time.

They are finally attacking and not settling. Basketball is easier when you do that! -

Did you see the utter domination last night? There is no question in my mind we go 4-0 in those 3 games. -

Wow, a few observations from an impressive night: 1) If a team finishes in the top 14 of the Big 10 standings this year, they could very easily be a top 50-60 team overall in the country. Yes, I know there are only 14 teams in the Big 10! 2) A Big 10 team that finishes in the bottom 4 of the league this year would be very competitive and possibly wins the Pac 12. Not a high bar there. That league has been garbage in football and basketball for awhile now. 3) I put a small wager on a fun 7 team Big 10 parlay last night and didn't think anything of it when Purdue crapped down their leg in the 2nd half in the first game of the night. In retrospect, I'm glad that was the first game of the day and not the last game of the night. -
Message from the Nebraska Basketball Team
Nebrasketball1979 replied to hhcmatt's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Everyone can have differing political viewpoints or opinions on anything in life. It's how you react and respect those opinions and beliefs which don't align with yours. I think everyone would be better off if they just followed the simple mantra our team put forth a few years ago...Hate Will Never Win. Or, just follow the golden rule. Either work and both equally effective. -
Hoiberg Ball and what is could be.
Nebrasketball1979 replied to PimpMario's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Geesh guys, I come here for sunshine pumping and kool aid drinking. These last several posts have taken me back to dark times and sadness. Let's get back on topic...Hoiberg ball will take us to multiple final fours and national championships. Just wait until we have sharp shooters next year. I will predict us to go undefeated! Banners will hang from the rafters and parade routes will be drawn! A separate trophy building will have to be built. Let's not dwell on mostly 100 years of sadness. There, that was therapeutic and I feel better. Back to drinking. -

Game Day Essentials: Game #4 vs South Dakota
Nebrasketball1979 replied to hhcmatt's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Your dedication to uncovering the truth is commendable. I do hope you were drinking during this tedious exercise. If it were me, every error I found would have been worth a celebratory shot or two. I hope someone on the team uses the 1945 game that South Dakota is trying to steal from us as bulletin board material and we make them pay for their mistake tonight!!!
