In real time, i thought Arop definitely fouled him. In that situation, Arop needs to have a better basketball IQ. If you are going to jump at all, do so vertically. His side step or lunge towards Cowan gave Cowan the opportunity to make a heady basketball play where he likely helped initiate the contact as well. Arop is a freshman and will learn from it. I can't fault Cowan for the foul at the end of the half or the foul on Cross on the moving screen. By the letter of the law, he definitely was moving because Cam didn't let the play develop. Cowan is a veteran Senior guard that made two savvy, high IQ basketball plays and I'll just tip my hat to him and hope we develop those players in the future as well.

Man, great effort and fight. Really, really wish Cam would have flipped it to Cheatham when all 5 Terps collapsed on him. Felt like it would have been fitting for Cheatham to win it after his impressive 2nd half. Oh well, hard to fault Cam too much and I'd much rather have someone willing to take the last shot and miss than shrink in the moment. If only we could show this fight each game!!!

To be sort of fair to Iowa, they did clear their bench and pulled all of their starters out with just under 10 minutes. I'm not sure you can tell the kids that hardly ever play to not play hard or make smart basketball plays. I have no issues with them shooting 3's and playing hard. Like Scott said, it's our job to stop them. Oh, and to remember this and to return the favor at some point in the future!!!

If there is a website that tracks FG % from inside 5 feet, I'd wager a lot of your money that we're in the bottom 10% of college basketball. We just make basketball so much harder than it is designed to be! I do like the resiliency we showed after the brutal start. Putting forth effort for a full 40 minutes has been the tough part.

OT: Most overrated/underrated coaches..
Nebrasketball1979 replied to Fullbacksympathy's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Lots of good choices above. I always thought Rick Barnes was vastly overrated at Texas for the supposed talent they had. However, he built a good team in Tennessee last year and has done a good job with that program; although, they appear to have regressed a bit this year. As far as underrated...this won't be popular but McDermott churns out quality team after quality team and he did a phenomenal job transitioning the team in Blue to the Big East. But, maybe it's just the money guy that is underrated. -
WARNING - Nebraska basketball can have adverse impacts on your health. Only consume under the direct supervision of a doctor and under the the influence of alcohol or drugs. Side effects include agitation, nausea, constipation, diarrhea, difficulty speaking or slurred speech, dizziness, drowsiness, and feelings of anxiety. If you have an erection lasting longer than 4 hours while consuming Nebraska basketball, you should consult a mental health doctor immediately. I suspect Norm has incurred some adverse side effects from years of Nebraska basketball consumption and I hope he is taking the break he needs to join us again soon!!!

2021 SG Hunter Sallis ->Gonzaga->Wake Forest
Nebrasketball1979 replied to AuroranHusker's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
Shoot, put me in the camp that would take him regardless of whether he is a one and done guy or not. I understand the rationale for having players around for more than a year to help build a program for sustained success BUT we're talking about a kid that would be here in year 3 of Hoiberg and I think the foundation and pieces will be much better established by then. And if the roster still needs work, I'll take my chances with Sallis for a year in the hope we make a good run in the tourney to further boost our national profile with other high level recruits. -
Thanks for the link but are we certain he just didn't need to use the restroom? That looks like the same potty dance and pose my 4 year old does. This could be an elaborate smoke screen!

If we keep losing competitive games, we may be the first 20+ loss team ever to finish in the top 100! Got to keep that glass half full -
6 Reasons Fred Hoiberg Is A Great FLOOR Coach
Nebrasketball1979 replied to hhcdave's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Very, very, very well said. Your points are exactly why we have to judge and evaluate this season differently than wins and losses. Fred is building a culture, installing his systems, and is in his infancy of recruiting the players he needs to really get this thing going. Let's not freak out if we lose 20+ games or the results are wildly inconsistent, even from one half to the next. This is part of the process and I am super excited to see this thing built up over the next few years. And, if Fred can't get it done....I'll buy everyone a lifetime supply of Nyquil so we can all enjoy future basketball seasons in a fog induced haze and oblivious to the fact that Ernie Kent is coaching our team. -
A big positive for me was Cross tonight. The threes are nice but the one play where he pump faked and exploded to the basket for a bucket plus the foul was a thing of beauty. He is going to be a good one. Get him and Yvan in the weight room this summer and they will take very big steps forward next year. Oh, and add in the three athletic sit out transfers and you have a team that can compete for a full 40 minutes.
