HHCC Game #16 - vs. Northwestern (Jan. 08, 1:15 PM CST)

NU 67 Opponent 62 Thought I already posted but I didn't see it. If so disregard this prediction. -
Fans can definitely have an impact on the game. This is a different sport so it's not a level comparison but I remember seeing an interview with Brad Kaaya (Miami QB) about when they played in Lincoln a few years back. He said the stadium was so loud his face mask was rattling and that he couldn't hear what his O Line was saying to him in the huddle. I think you can have the same kind of impact in basketball. Especially if we keep winning.

Iowa (9-6) vs. Nebraska (8-6) Game Thread

Them boys are some fighters that's for sure -
I think bc he was about 180lbs lol.

How could you be so disrespectful to forget Omaha's own and Benson alum Khyri Thomas. Kid is a baller. I'm just bustin your chops btw.
-
Patton or Foster tbh. It's not likely both are gone. But there's still a chance. Patton is blowing up and Foster is a kid I can see pulling a TP3 move and gambling with the draft (assuming he'll have his degree come spring?)

Honestly shocked I'm still in first. But I guess most ppl picked them to lose this week like I did.

WE GOT EM SHOOK -
Our remaining schedule is pretty awesome

I really think the GW loss is the only thing preventing ppl from jumping all in and saying this is a tournament team. And I'm not just referring to the repercussions it had in terms of W-L record, RPI, etc. I'm talking about just overall feel and assumptions about this team. I think we can agree, at this point in time, we have played 8 tourney teams already. We are 3-5 in those games. One of those losses (Clemson) was oh so close to being a W and if you like to play the game of almost and what ifs it prob shouldve been a win. Three more of those losses were to current Top 10 teams and there is a good chance those three could all be 1-2 seeds in the tournament. And we were not completely outclassed in those games by any means. We played UCLA tight until about 4 minutes left. We hung around with Creighton for 22 min before things got away from us. We beat Kansas in a second half in which they still had their big dogs in the majority of the half (sure you could question their effort and intensity being up 12-15 points most of the second half but still). Lastly you have a VT loss where we just came out flat as hell and lost. Which with 7 underclassmen in your top 9, flat as hell is gonna happen from time to time. Basically what I'm saying is I'm all in on this team. Are we an elite team? Heck no, not even close. But are we good enough to go dancin? I sure as hell think so. -
I really hope #2 is Tai. Having a player who will check other players' attitude, discipline, and effort is important. But it becomes infinitely more important when that player is your best player. Bc most of the time when the top dog says something you're gonna listen. Plus it sets a good example and tone to all these underclassmen of what it takes to succeed and what can happen if you just put your head down and get to work.

Wait I'm not following, who is player 1?

Miles Just Punched His Ticket Today

Nope. That's why I penciled in "some type of recognition". 1st through 3rd is what i was talking about. -

I agree about Tai this year. But I think we could have 3 All Big Ten Players in one year. Realisticall, when Glynn and Ed are Sr. and Roby is a Jr. I think all three could garner some type of recognition. Which would probably mean we are doing very well that year. -

I think we currently have three future All Big Ten players: Watson, Morrow, and Roby. -

I hate living in the past but man I feel like that Gardner - Webb loss hurts even more now. I think it will come back to bite us really hard. Could be the difference between .500+ record or not. Or even (and hopefully we do this well) NCAA Tournament bid or not. Anyway, what a great win. Go into a blue blood programs home court and end their 25 game home winning streak. -Tai and Glynn proved they are on of the better back courts in the Big Ten. And they need to be with how thin our gaurd depth is. -Ed is a beast. That's probably about the 1000th time that's been said this season. -Seems like Roby played his best game of the year. He is definitely special. -Absolutely giddy to see Horne follow up with another good game. Playing well at home v. Southern is one thing but doing so at Assembly Hall against a nationally ranked team is another. -I thought Jordy played decent. Not a great game statistically but he was also playing against really good competition -Both ET and Jacobson are glue guys who are gonna play defense and give 100% every game. Definitely need that. -Still want to find a way to get Jack going. Can never have too much 3pt shooting -

NU 70 Opponent 85 7 wins -
Well I think this almost assures we see a lot more of Horne as ET will have to serve almost exclusively as the backup to Tai and Watson. Assuming he won't get much more minutes at the 3, we should be seeing a lot more of Horne and Roby. We need Jack McVeigh to rediscover his stroke more than ever now.

15-17 8-10 in conference play 1-1 in Conf Tourney Clemson and GW loss will really haunt us.
-
I say 7-9 wins. We aren't as bad as we thought after the GW loss. And to be fair we aren't as good as we thought after the Dayton win and UCLA loss.

Don't want to talk too much about the game bc I still have a lot of worries/ still troubled by the previous game. But big shout out to Horne. He's always on social media tweeting about sticking with the process and working to get better, so it was awesome seeing him have a huge game and make clutch plays. -
I don't see us finishing with a .500 or better record. We let too many winnable games slip away. Now I know crazier things have happened and I'm really really hoping for something crazy. I still think we have enough pieces to be dangerous. We just really, desperately, need those pieces to start clicking.

I've been on the Tim Miles train as much as anyone. He has been my favorite coach in regards to teams that I cheer for (I am very young so that list of coaches isn't very long). But his seat definitely is getting warm. All the reasonable fans think he deserves another year barring a disaster this year. Well a loss like we just had yesterday is a good way for a season to start spiraling out of control. Hopefully Miles and staff can convince the kids they are the team that beat dayton and played three top 10 teams evenly for a half+. Not the team that showed up yesterday. Hoping we right the ship.
