  1. Lunardi has noticed and is putting PSU in the play-in game.
  2. Huskers have done a good job so far of slowing down Shon Morris' references to the missing Mike Watkins. He had only three after the second timeout. We need to keep Morris away from the mic and keep pounding.
  3. I'm pretty sure we're now behind Colorado.
  4. You mean such as paying the mothers of players? Or just the regular on-court crap?
  5. You haven't met a Nebraska alumnus, dressed in red at a football game, tell you that he roots for the only basketball program in the state that matters, and that it's not Nebraska.
  6. Creighton won. Yay?
  7. Eric Piatkowski's sophomore year (third year on campus) line: 14.3 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 3.3 apg, 0.6 bpg.
  8. Agreed. The conundrum is that online advertising is fractions of a penny to dollars compared to print, so the advertising-supported model is outdated. Philanthropy-supported models (such as ProPublica and the Marshall Project) could be subject to political will of the funder. New funding models arise nearly every month, and it will test future generations, probably, to think of a European-style tax that allows for independent journalism (a constitutionally protected activity and, some would argue, a public utility) to exist whether it drives a profit or not. Interesting times ahead. I'm glad my most active reporting days were in the heyday of print journalism in South Florida (the 1980s).
  9. Thanks for the support. I know we aren't perfect, but the vast majority of journalists go to work every day not trying to fulfill an agenda, but simply trying to get at the truth and tell a good story in the meantime. We're really decent people, generally, but not to a person. We have warts, no doubt.
  10. Here's a story from a few months ago about why local journalism matters, and why it should be supported. It's a 45-minute listen from a local radio station in Boston. And local journalism begins with the local newspaper and its website. TV journalists don't have the resources to follow the mundane stories that local papers historically have. When it comes to news gathering, news organizations, the cutbacks have come all over in recent years. But local news may have taken the most dire hit. You want to know what happened at the town council meeting this week? Or the zoning commission? Or just around the block? Good luck to you in too many communities now. This hour, On Point: Saving local news. And we’ll talk with Bob Schieffer of CBS about how to sort fake news from fact. -- Tom Ashbrook.
  11. You know where TV journalists get their story ideas, right?
  12. The entire Big 12 has been hexed by Bill Self and his relentless drive toward 60 consecutive league titles.
  13. "I have no spur to prick the sides of my intent, but only vaulting ambition, which o'erleaps itself, and falls on the other." (Act I, Scene VII)
  14. Quadrants, baby. Plus, Chambers is a tool.
  15. Nebraska = the single college basketball program in the entire history of the sport to have had the least fun over the past 120 years. So now we're having fun. And people bitch about it. F them. And did I mention Bob Knight already? Well, F Indiana.
  16. Didn't IU hire both Bob Knight and Kelvin Sampson? Yeah. I thought so. F them.
  17. Mizzou needs to stop losing to last-place teams. At home.
  18. HOL Season So Far: Preseason: Fire Miles because he's proven to be an abject failure. This season's patchwork lineup is a sure sign of desperation. Lucky to win 10 total. 13th place is being kind. Thank god for Rutgers. Mid-season: Fire Miles because he's proving that with a reasonably talented team, he'll never win the games that matter. Be prepared for a 6-12 type conference season, so Moos' decision will be easy. Feb. 20: Fire Miles because he's proving that he can't coach the most talented team Nebraska's ever had, and possibly the second-most talented team in the Big Ten. Losing on the road in the Big Ten is inexcusable. Be prepared for a four-game losing streak to end the season. Just hope that Moos has the stones to make the right call. March 20: Fire Miles because the greatest players in NCAA history should be able to go much further than that. Coach is just lucky they got favorable matchups in the first two rounds. God, just hope that we're not stuck with this guy and his good humor for much longer. So now nobody has to go over to HOL ever again.
  19. Should I again list my seven least favorite programs? 1. Western Kentucky 2. Xavier 3. Connecticut 4. New Mexico State 5. Pennsylvania 6. Arkansas 7. BAYLOR
  20. NIT-ology has us as a No. 1 seed as of Feb. 11 after posting this on Jan. 15: "Looking at 18-13 and 9-9 in the Big Ten, so certainly enough wins. They’re looking at an RPI around 125/130 according to RPIForecast with just two wins in Tier 1 or 2 (because of how down the Big Ten is), so it’s hard to see the Cornhuskers making a legit run at an NIT bid. An unexpected win at Minnesota or Michigan would certainly help." So that's progress.
  21. Or when we play a top 10 team on the road in the Big Ten. That's always a problem for us (and just about everybody else).
  22. Being purely objective: 72-52.
  23. Dan Beebe?
