  1. Our opportunities have been mixed. In 1986, Moe was on his way out, and as a 9 seed against Clem Haskins, we seemed destined to lose. Of course, 1991 sticks out as the biggest lost opportunity, dropping that 3-14 game to Xavier — and never really feeling like we were going to come back. We felt like we were on a roll in 1994 after the conference tournament, a 6-11 game against the Ivy League. Damn. And we led Arkansas by seven at the half in 1998. But, you know. Sigh.
  2. Ames is smack dab in the middle. Hmmm. I have a lot of leftover hostility for Johnny Orr.
  3. And this guy lives in ... wait for it ... Missouruh. Oy. (Still a great guy, even as a grandpa.)
  4. I was born in Lincoln, went to school at UNL and the U of Florida, and have taught at CSU, CU-Boulder, KU and now Iowa. No love for any of those places other than Dear Ol' Nebraska U.

  6. Hey, now. I live in Iowa City. But, yeah, the basketball team does corner the market on dorky white dudes.
  7. The above-wing exits are to your right.
  8. If your team makes two 3-point baskets, how many points do you have?
  9. How many hands does it take to handle a Whopper?
  10. Coach, how would Bo Pelini react to that call?
  11. Kyle Marks. Man, you have a great memory, @uneblinstu.
  12. I disagree with Cary that it's good we don't get Purdue, MSU and OSU again. We WANT to play those teams in Lincoln, not ONLY on the road. I watched two bubble teams (Va. Tech and TCU) beat top 10 teams last night, but at home, while we lost a tight one on the road.
  13. That's my fear about not getting in and winning this year. Oh, we make a run in the NIT, and everybody feels good that next year is THE year. And someone goes Euro pro. And someone else tires of basketball. And someone else thinks he's being used wrong so transfers somewhere closer to home. And. And. And we're back to square one.

  15. Thank goodness. I kind of have the same feeling for Indiana basketball as I do for Penn State football. They were able to celebrate championships while one of the worst human beings ever to walk the court coached for them. And then they hired Kelvin Sampson. And Tom Crean. Good lord.
  16. Against a team that will suck your soul dry and turn a basketball game into the Bataan Death March.
  17. The rest of team (aside from Palmer) was 10 for 36. We were giving the ball to the right guy.
  18. Actual facebook chat between me and a KU friend from earlier today (after he asked me to be a reference for him in a job search): HIM: How's Nebrasketball looking? ME: Not bad. Big game tonight. But it will end in some soul-crushing fashion. ME (sarcastically): When's KU basketball gonna catch a break? It's uncanny no matter what the rest of the conference looks like compared to KU, you win and they don't. HIM: Yeah, we look really bad at home. I'm afraid we won't get past the second round of the NCAA this year. (Poor guy.)
  19. You know, if I weren't 56 years old and hadn't lived through so much Nebrasketball agony, I'd take this as philosophically as Sean. But I am and I have. So phuck.
  20. How is Indiana ahead of us in the Big Ten standings?
