    summer updates

kansashusker: Thanks for the kind words about Rachel Blackburn. I think your sources are reliable . We understand that my Rachel is "under the radar" with most fans... It's certainly understandable. She wasn't a NE kid and she has yet to play a minute. It's ok... We'll see how it goes. Coach Yori texted Rachel yesterday regarding how she (Rachel) is doing so far. It was nice. I'll just remind you that when Blackburn signed with Nebraska your local paper reported (this quote is on the team's official website)... "Nebraska Coach Connie Yori said Blackburn’s toughness and energy could make her a fan favorite for years to come. Husker fans are going to love Rachel because she represents what we’ve built our program on,” Yori said. “She’s tough, hard-working, skilled and is a great energy player."

  2. He will be highly coveted by someone. He could easily play overseas, which I would say is the best decision for him if he doesn't make the Hawks or get picked up by a team of the Hawks cut him. The D League is also an easy option for him but financially it's the worst place to play. The only good thing of the D League is he can easily get called up any time whereas playing elsewhere he'd have to pay a buyout of his contract to leave for the NBA midseason.

  6. Thanks. Not sure if media will be able to attend practices but it would be nice to get a few nuggets. I believe Crayton is doing an overseas trip, too; and the Omaha media has had a few practice reports. I saw a few tweets...apparently their whole roster is now littered with all-americans and super human athletic freaks. This will be the sixth straight season that "they've never had a roster" like this before. Hopefully Miles will allow some of the LJS guys to watch...wouldn't mind a few updates on how the young guys look.

  7. Not that I don't like Anton Gill, but he's been the top story on the homepage for a little too long now.

  9. I think they could handle a basketball submission http://hailvarsity.com/uniforms/ That's not a bad idea. Anyone can say "that's terrible" or "I could do better" well....do better. As for the basketball unis, I like them. The shorts could have used a logo or something but I'm a fan. The tops remind me of my track jersey back in the day. But maybe I'm easy to please. I've been a fan of almost all of the alternates we've done so far. I wasn't too crazy about the tournament unis adidas put out last year but other than that I've liked them all. Even the Red out or White out ones we did that last year at the Bob. Those were sick (in a good way). The NBA did something like that as well... D Wade:

  11. Rivs was a team player, and never complained when he didn't see the court either. That's a skill for life!

  15. Guys who aren't being heavily recruited might have a greater desire just to win and, therefore, more of a tendency to play defense on the AAU circuit. Just a guess.I can just imagine some 4-star kid from Cleveland telling one of the Bison guys, "C'mon, man, this is AAU. Why're you guarding me like that?" Probably true as Nebraska kids likely play for 'team' over me, myself & I.Yeah, that must be why the amount of Nebraska AAU teams about doubles every summer. Nebraska kids have just as selfish motives for hopefully playing in college as kids do from any other state. Don't recall calling players from other states selfish, so not sure where that came from, honestly. "Team ball" is harder to accomplish in an AAU setting, IMHO; Nebraskans seem to have that part figured out better than many... obviously it's a generalization on my part. And, on that note, many others are not as adept at 'team ball' also does not imply that they're patently selfish on the basketball court by joining/organizing/playing-for an AAU squad. I'm not saying all kids playing AAU ball are selfish and play selfish, I am saying that every kid who is playing AAU ball (and paying to do so), is doing so to explore their own college basketball options, an inherently selfish desire. It's not wrong for them to do that, it just is that way. To say that, "Nebraska kids likely play for 'team' over me, myself, and I," is just entirely inaccurate and a gross-generalization of a "state's attitude." Which is not a thing. Each kid who goes and plays for an OSA team (for example), has the same intentions and wants than some kid from California who also joined a team to play AAU ball over the summer. There's no difference in how they are playing the game. One kid isn't screening harder for a teammate because he's from Nebraska, and one team isn't playing any less defense because they're from New Jersey. You couldn't be more wrong when it comes to many kids from this great state as many are from small towns & villages and are more adept at teamwork as they likely work on their family farm. So, quite frankly, not every kid playing AAU does so for selfish reasons (which were your words, not mine). Also, I noticed that the entire point I was making has been taken completely out of contest for the scenario I presented. As it were, it appears that "jones" is the one who has taken gross generalizations to a whole new level. Way to go, you could have left mine as as a stand-alone comment, and then you totally blew it! So, in conclusion, 'team ball' = good. Conversely, not playing 'team ball' = not good. Nebraska good. Those comments seem to have racist undertones. Also, the O in OSA stands for Omaha...
