The Nebraska women's basketball team hits the road for the third time in the past four games to face Minnesota in Minneapolis on Sunday, Jan. 20. Tip-off between the Huskers and the Golden Gophers is set for 5 p.m.
The Huskers will shoot for their first weekend win in Big Ten road play while trying to secure their first-ever win against Minnesota on the Gophers' homecourt.
Getting a win this weekend at Minnesota won't be easy. The Gophers, who are 13-5 and 2-2 in the Big Ten, are 10-1 at Williams Arena this season. Both the Huskers and the Gophers, who are coming off a loss at Purdue, will be hungry for a win.
The Gophers are one of the conference's most improved teams after finishing 6-10 in the league last season and 19-17 overall. Led by sophomore guard Rachel Banham and junior forward Micaëlla Riché, the Gophers are among the nation's top 60 RPI teams and are in the hunt for their first NCAA Tournament berth since 2009. Last year, Minnesota claimed the Women's Basketball Invitational title.
As a team, Minnesota ranks as one of the Big Ten's top offensive units. The Gophers are averaging 72.7 points per game (2nd), while shooting 45.1 percent from the field (4th) and 32.3 percent from long range. They have also hit 75.2 percent of their free throws (4th). Minnesota is also one of the Big Ten's most complete teams, as the Gophers own a plus-5.1 rebound margin (6th) and plus-2.2 team turnover margin (3rd).
Nebraska and Minnesota are tied in the all-time series at six wins apiece, after splitting home games in their first-ever Big Ten season series last season.
