I just wanna say, there are some yokels on another board I used to post at who just ... well, they're a-holes for lack of a better way of describing it.  They used to malign Tom Osborne and belittle anyone who appreciated tradition and having a "Nebraska way."  They didn't want TO anywhere near the new basketball hire (yeah, because they would have hired someone good, like Thad Matta or Mike Krzzzawooski.)

Now, this was a few years back, but one in particular was especially an a-hole (and still is.)  Called for the heads of basically every single coach was had.  And one thing I remember in particular about this genius was how he used to say that Ned Yost was such an idiot, needed to be fired, and that the Royals would never be any good as long as he was their skipper.

Yep, this was the guy who would rather have had Shawn Eichorst picking the new hoops coach than having Tom Osborne do it.

This particular individual, who shall remain an idiot, is a perfect lesson as to why it's a good thing fans don't get to make hiring and firing decisions in sports.

BTW, how much extra money (on his next contract) do you think Johnny Cueto made himself last night?  $20 million?  $50 million???

More important will Gordon opt out of his deal and go FA on the royals.

That will be very intriguing... my Angels could use a stud left fielder. Alex is already familiar with GO BIG RED! ;)

HB, you are correct. The Royals have that special combination of players that let them hang in to the later innings and rely on their shutdown bullpen. Contact hitters swinging until they put it in play. Keep swinging and make some type of contact. Admirable effort following up last seasons near miss. This is a team built for the present and future if they stick together.

Next season, I would love to get the Royals and the Cubs. If so, will somebody get me a ticket?

I'm happy for Alex. May his contract reward him...while he stays in KC.

Seeing Ned Yost skipper the Royals to a world series title, I was just shaking my head again at that particular a-hole who thinks all of the world's problems can be solved by firing the current coach.  (Except, now, his buddy told him that Riley was a great hire, so he has to defend it to the absurd.)

Had he been the Royals' GM a few years back, Ned Yost would have been sent packing and we wouldn't probably be enjoying this championship right now.

Had it been up to him, we wouldn't have let Tom Osborne hire Tim Miles.  Had it been up to him, we'd probably have Craig Robinson guiding us to losing seasons about now.
