They will definitely be battle tested by the time they get to Big Ten play. I'm optimistic bc Miles has always surpassed seasonal expectations, 3 out of 4 years imo (first, second, and fourth season). And I think we would have had a really strong finish to last season had Shields not gone down with that concussion.

Not sure he really surpassed expectations last year.
In my opinion they did. Taking in to account 6 newcomers who didn't play D1 Basketball the previous year, the lack of size to defend the post, and Shavons injury I was pleased with the season.

If Shavon doesn't go down we for sure win one more regular season game and potentially up to 3 more. That would have put us at 15 to 17 regular season wins plus however we did in the tourney (since our draw would have been different with a better record). But like I said that is just my opinion.

I like Miles....but the lack of size is/was on him so I don't consider that as an excuse in my expectations.  Could also make a case for the amount of newcomers too.

And I don't think Shavon's injury cost us 3 more.   1 at best.   Ohio State.   And even with that...had the appropriate foul been called on Glynn's final shot..we win that.

You can definitely blame the roster issues on Miles. But as a fan, I base my expectations for the upcoming season on how I perceive the roster to be.

With Shavon I think we beat Ohio State and beat Penn state the second time (I know he played in that game, but the rest of the team was really flat by the time he returned. If he hadn't gone down I think we still have momentum and are playing well enough to beat them comfortably). Also, I wouldn't have been surprised if we stole one from Wisconsin or Indiana either. Those are where my 1 to 3 extra regular season wins come from. This is all speculation though.

The good news is that in the next couple years Kansas, Nova, and Clemson will all be coming here.

Pretty sure Nova and Clemson aren't necessarily coming here.   Wasn't Nova the Gavitt Tip-Off Classic and Clemson as part of the ACC/Big 10

Won't necessarily be Clemson...in fact, it probably won't be.

Yes but I'm under the assumption that they always have a return game, not sure about the Gavitt Tip off since that is new, but atleast in the ACC/Big Ten.

No guarantee of a return game

ACC/Big Ten Challenge matches teams up individually per year.  There is no H/H aspect to the way its scheduled.

The only consistent thing is teams rotate between home and away each year...usually.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ACC–Big_Ten_Challenge#Results

Take Wisconsin's opponents, for example:

1999 - @Wake Forest

2000 - Maryland

2001 - @Georgia Tech

2002 - Wake Forest

2003 - @Maryland

2004 - Maryland

2005 - @Wake Forest

2006 - Florida State

2007 - @Duke

2008 - @Virginia Tech

2009 - Duke

2010 - NC State

2011 - @North Carolina

2012 - Virginia

2013 - @Virginia

2014 - Duke

2015 - @Syracuse

2016 - Syracuse

***edited to add, the reason that you see teams often match up against each other in adjacent years, or kind of get scheduled in clusters is because they like to try to maintain a competitive balance in scheduling, and often teams who finish near the top will play teams from the other conference near the top, and so on.  Usually, teams will spend more time than not finishing in the same general area of their conference's standings year after year.  This is why Wisconsin has been playing Duke/Virginia/Syracuse quite a bit recently.

Well, we do know that at least KU will be in Lincoln next December. And NU will have a home game in the ACC/B1G challenge in 2017. Not sure how it shakes out for the Gavitt Games at the start of next season....

Expect to see a lot of this from this from the local wags leading up to the season.

Hard to disagree until Miles actually beats them.  It's only one game but I think that's a pretty important one for him this year.  Probably will be pretty close to a pick em at home.

It's not even about the head to head matchup. Miles and McDermott have a weird history that kinda defies logic. I think when you get to the end of the season, it won't be nearly as obvious that CU has more talent than NU. Maybe not even by the time you get to conference play. And I think CU will be pretty good next year.

On Paper Pretty even to be honest... I am going off of ESPN only for comparison, but Dirk Chatlain is an idiot, and all he is doing is stirring the pot

Please note that Prior to 2012 the ratings were different so I will put an () on the recruits that were prior to 2012

Creighton

Marcus Foster - 75 3*

Kyrie Thomas - 78 3*

Ronnie Harrell - 84 4* 71st overall

Davian Mintz - NR

Jordan Scurry - NR

(Maurice Watson - 92 4* 92nd overall)

Tyler Clement - NR

(Cole Huff - 86 2*)

Kaleb Joseph - 86 4* 50th overall

Martin Krampelj - NR

(Isaiah Zierden - 88 2*)

Justin Patton - 80 4*

Toby Hegner - 74 3*

Zach Hanson - NR

4* = 4

3* = 3

2* = 2

NR = 5

Nebraska

Tai Webster = 79 3*

Anton Gill = 88 4* 48th overall

Glynn Watson Jr. = 84 4* 73rd overall

Jack McVeigh = NR

Michael Jacobson = 70 3*

Evan Taylor = 69 2*

Malcom Laws = NR

Nick Fuller = 79 3*

Ed Morrow = 85 4* 53rd overall

Jeriah Horne = NR

James Palmer Jr. = 79 3*

Isaiah Roby = 78 3*

Jordy Tshimanga = 79 3*

4* = 3

3* = 6

2* = 1

NR = 3

Looking at talent on paper Nebraska has the edge... I don't know what Creighton's "NR" are like on other sites, but I'd be willing to bet none are rated higher than Jeriah Horne.

Also 3 of Nebraska the six 3* star guys are 4* on other sites Jordy Tshimanga, James Palmer and Isaiah Roby.

So if you want to say ESPN is not a good judge of talent and that is why Creighton looks weaker there... good luck looking better on other site who all have Nebraska recruits rated higher.

The only thing Creighton has on Nebraska is Greg McDermott.  Not saying he is a better coach "Overall" then Miles, but he definitely has a style that beats Miles head to head

I fail to see how a team's nonconference schedule makes any difference as to how it compares to another though. This is just Dirk being Dirk without having any substantiation to his claims.

That's insane.  Everybody knows Creighton has much better players.

And they have much higher character, too.  Just overall good guys.

Marcus Foster is probably the preseason favorite for the Wooden Award.  He'll probably win it.

They have their five star all world center coming off his RS season and could very well finish second in Wooden balloting.  Not sure if he's gonna be an NBA lottery pick this year or next but we'll have to see how all that progresses.

Harrell, Watson and Huff will be 1st team all-BE no doubt.  I know, kind of a disappointment that they will probably be All-American snubs, but there's just only so much one team can do.

Finally, Krampelj has proven he can be a deadly force and with all the other tools around him can be that sneaky threat that you just can't let your guard down at any point.

They'll beat us by 30.  Minimum.

And don't forget how dominant all of their players have been in the Omaha "Summer League", which I've heard is about on par with the NBA playoffs for talent comparisons.

Kinda surprise nobody picked up on the "all the other tools around him" bit.  Oh well.  I guess they can't all be hits.

UCLA's Jonah Bolden will forego his final two years of eligibility and turn pro, per release. Would have been key piece for Bruins.

Huskers may be playing UCLA in the Wooden Legacy.

(Huskers play either UCLA or Portland on Nov 25th.)
