HuskerFever Posted October 16, 2015 Report Posted October 16, 2015 And if the university is to move on from their longtime partnership with the brand with three stripes, I would say the title of this thread is the safer bet for the new partnership than the company that has become much of the talk of this thread. So that's a 'no' for switching to a New Balance contract? hhcmatt, 49r and Silverbacked1 3 Quote

IIRC, the buzz was UA came close to winning the Nebraska bid last time around. It also seems like they are getting real aggressive about winning college contracts. I agree that Nike appears that it will be a distant third in upcoming apparel contract bidding for NU. Quote
jimmykc Posted October 16, 2015 Report Posted October 16, 2015 Are you implying that Nike does not consider the Huskers essential in establishing their brand? What are they thinking? Quote

I agree that Nike appears that it will be a distant third in upcoming apparel contract bidding for NU. The athletic department actually opted not to take a bid from UA. It was just adidas and Nike, and Nike's offer was offensive. I heard all that directly from the mouth of the man in charge at the time. Quote
Red Rum Posted October 16, 2015 Report Posted October 16, 2015 I may be falling into Norm's lower category but I seem to think, in my pea brain, that Nike wasn't all that hyped up about outfitting all of Nebraska's sports teams. In any event I doesn't really matter to me what brand is putting out Nebraska gear, I'll pony up for the crap all the same. Norm Peterson 1 Quote
Norm Peterson Posted October 16, 2015 Report Posted October 16, 2015 My categories only relate to people who present "insider information." The only poster (I started to type poser) that I can think of right now who falls into that bottom category once claimed that Mike Gesell's basement was "all decked out" in Notre Dame gear. I personally know someone who's been in the Gesells' basement. She went to school with Gesell at South Sioux. Graduated with him. Has known him for years. When I told her that someone claimed his basement was "all decked out" with Notre Dame stuff, she laughed. There's maybe a poster down there with Notre Dame on it, but it's not even prominently displayed. I was going to rub said poster's nose in it and challenged him to repeat the claim and he wouldn't do it. Anyway, sorry to sidetrack the discussion. I'm with Red Rum: No matter what brand they choose, "I'll pony up for the crap all the same." Well said, Red Rum. Quote
Haymarket Husker Posted October 16, 2015 Report Posted October 16, 2015 NIKE has interest in Nebraska. They will be making a move on us. I think it would be naive to think that our BOR approved a Nike town store on campus just because of Suh wanting one, and one that can't sell official Nebraska apparel at that. Something is going on behind the scenes. I have heard the football and basketball staffs prefer Nike. We will have to wait and see. Quote

49r Posted October 16, 2015 Report Posted October 16, 2015 Besides, they have an "N" on the side! What more convincing do you need? Quote
AuroranHusker Posted October 16, 2015 Report Posted October 16, 2015 Man, I miss a day around here & let's just say, it is an "interesting" read up in here... the Huskers could go to UA, Reebok, asics, adidas, Nike, Converse, Skechers, & I'd be fine with it! After all it's the players that are wearing the shoes that need to step up & perform at a higher level. Quote

I've heard that Mr. Eichorst is shooting for Wisconsin's new UA contract type numbers. Quote

Well if I recall from you're previous posts you're not a fan of the brand with three stripes. So, I think you're really hoping for that company to move along from the university. Which, to each their own, but I just don't think Nike is interested. From what I've been hearing the three stripes has some fun things planned for the prolific basketeers this season. But to some people it doesn't matter. If there's not a swoosh, it's not cool. AuroranHusker 1 Quote
Haymarket Husker Posted October 17, 2015 Report Posted October 17, 2015 Actually all I wear is tree stripes. I really don't care. Nike is interested. Lots can change in a few years. Believe what you want. I rarely post unless I'm fairly sure of something , you know because I know stuff and you don't know who I am. Quote

Huskerpapa Posted October 17, 2015 Report Posted October 17, 2015 ...another important thought. The more we win, the more important our brand becomes and then the more money we get from the new contract. Quote

Unless NU's winning natty's, I don't know how much a 'W' is worth at this point... accumulating a whole bunch of W's in the next 2 years certainly won't hurt, though. Quote
