Conferences Discussing Freshman Ineligibility for Football and Basketball

Interesting news from the Big Ten.  I don't think this will ever happen, but it is an interesting idea to say the least.

Do any of our more "seasoned" members out there recall the days when this was already a rule pre-1972?

I believe basketball, football & baseball players should all play at least 3 years in college or be eligible straight of H.S. But that would require a minor league football league for those not ready for the NFL as well as an expansion of the D-League for hoops..

If our conference does not allow freshmen, and the other five power five conferences can play freshmen, you can kiss high level talent good-bye.

In basketball more high school players would just go play international ball for a year or two.

So much this... if it isn't a NCAA thing, whatever conferences decide to do this suddenly are at a disadvantage.  Guys aren't going to want to come here not to play right away when they can somewhere else.

This is something that will be all NCAA or nothing so don't worry about it being just B1G.

You'll get some kids that decide to go overseas.

However, you'll see skills increase and better basketball.

Overall it would be a net positive but unless there is immediate financial gain for the NCAA I'm not sure that it advances. Not sure where the front end pay is.
