Anyone in Lincoln? We are getting some good rain in Omaha.  Hopefully they can get the game in tonight.  The Cali boys are going to freeze their butts off.

it rained a bunch during the night.  It let up within the last half hour and is not raining now in Southeast Lincoln.  But still cloudy.  I would think it will be difficult to get tonight's game in.

Just received a tweet saying game is still on...but that they would continue to update.  Looks really iffy right now, but I guess if the rain stops and since the opponent is in town, they will try to get it in.

So apparently they won yesterday.

Should we start getting excited for this team yet?

"They"?  How 'bout "We"?   :)

I think it is fine to be excited about the team.  Pitching and defense are solid.  More depth than in previous years.  Not a lot of speed or power, but it's hard to have it all.  Looks like a regional team, if not super-regional.  Depth of pitching will make us tough in a tournament format.

Ha, yeah.

I'm not a "'we win' but 'they lost'" kind of guy.  I change the we and they up from time to time.   :D

But back to baseball, it's nice to have it mean something again.  I was at the B1G championship game last year and that was a fairly epic day, even though they, er, WE lost.  ;)

...it took a while...a long while, but one heck of a win.  This Husker team has grit and one heck of a pitching staff.  And oh yeah, the defense ain't too bad either :)

All of this is true. Ted Silva has done a great job putting this together. This is the best staff performance in quite a while. The missing ingredients for a long post season run (see early 00's) are power, great hitting across the lineup and a lot of base path speed.

I am thrilled to see this type of gem at the Hawk...it has been a while.

I have not done any research or reviewing...but I was wondering, has there been a better pitching match and/or game at the Hawk?

If so, what were they?

We got the 3 wins I wanted at the beginning of this week....now, go get the sweep that would be awesome!

I can't wait to get to the Hawk tomorrow. The energy today was awesome!

Tomorrow, may it rock!

Umps were garbage yesterday. Two big missed calls in late innings one that should have ended the game for the Huskers. Pitching staff has been nails. Playing with house money today. Would be nice to get the sweep but we already got the job done this weekend. After yesterday not sure who will be available out of the pen. Hopefully Burkamper can go 6-7 innings. Knutson should be able to eat up some innings.

I think that Nebraska and Texas went toe to toe back in 2005. With the Huskers winning 4-3 in sixteen innings.

You are right. That was a classic win. Unfortunately, we lost the next two in '05...this time we get the sweep!

We evened our overall record with them at 31-31.

I went to the Texas record book to see if I could find a "most consecutive scoreless innings streak" (since we put together 24 innings).

Not very surprising...but I could not find that. I did note that no team that has played the horns 20 times or more has a winning record against them. Only Cal St Fullerton and the Huskers have 50/50 records!

It sure is nice to think we're getting back to where we once belonged!

The good news keeps rolling...besides making the top 20 this week...

Pitchers Kyle Kubat, Jake Hohensee, Colton Howell and Jeff Chesnutt were named Louisville Slugger's national players of the week  for their combined 15-inning shutout of the horns on Saturday.

It's the first time in the history of that award that four pitchers from one school received the honor.

Congratulations to them and the whole team on a great week of baseball!

Looks like we are keeping the same rotation this weekend.  Sinclair, Kubat, Burkamper.  I think that is the right call.  Going 2-1 would be a really nice weekend for us.  A&M is 12-0 but really only has had one tough test...they are due for a loss.  Hopefully we see Sinclair bounce back.

Going 2-1 would get my very excited about the season. Tall task, though. The two pitchers that we are going against for A&M and LSU are studs... and this is assuming we get a win over Hawaii too, of course

0-3 would be disappointing but going 1-2 against this competition would not be surprising.  After this weekend we have 16 straight home games which I think we will and need to take advantage of.  I think we can win 11-12 games in that home stretch.

Huskers finish 15-1 on the homestand.  And here I thought winning 11-12 games would get us in good position.  Big weekend series @Maryland.  Winning 2 out of 3 would be two thumbs up.
