NU falls to 6-7 in the Big Ten. If we fail to win both tomorrow we are a Purdue/NW series loss from being in serious trouble.

This team struggles as much as any I've seen with getting key 2 out hits.  We had so many chances today but couldn't get that hit.  And today was the rule rather than the exception in that regard.  Hopefully we're saving clutch hitting and some luck for the home stretch of the season.

Can we get into the NCAA with getting into the B1G tournament? I mean our RPI could be like 35 and we could be 9th in the league. We can't quite get over the hump right now.

Won't that be something? Although the number one team in the nation in NAIA is third in their own conference. How that works I have no idea unless it is a mixed conference where there are both NAIA and NCAA schools in the same league.

This is the most frustrated I have ever been watching a team. No one can make a hit in a big moment, its unbelievable.

Can't hit breaking balls and off speed pitches. We feast on mid week pitchers who have to throw fastballs.  When we face quality pitchers on the weekend who can throw off speed pitches for strikes in any count, we have no chance.  We look like Khiry Cooper up there trying to hit a curve ball.  

 

We really miss Pritchard and Kelly.

2-11 against Top 50 RPI teams....that sweep vs Texas that got everyone giddy does not look all that great now.  Pitching has remained solid and has kept us in most games.  Erstad needs to dig deep in the offseason and find out exactly what type of offense he wants this program to be.  From the moment he was hired Erstad has talked about putting pressure on the defense and I'm just not seeing it with the lineup he has assembled.  Either he has done a poor job recruiting to his philosophy or he has not got his team to buy into his approach for whatever reason.

Yep, count me in on the boat that is concerned right now.  I was one who thought it was just a bump in the road that ALL teams go through, but right now it's like we can't even find a road to drive on.

 

What really troubles me is the errors we have in key situations.  The two out hitting in key situations.  We need to right the ship, and we need to right it fast.  As seen earlier in this season, we have the horses to compete.  Something though is out of whack at the moment.

Actually we haven't hit well all season.  It remains to be seen whether we have the horses to compete offensively.  On weekend series we have had little clutch hitting all year, have had few crooked number innings.  it looked early like the true freshmen:  Schreiber, Dilday and Alvarado might really help, but the scouting reports must have identified some weaknesses.  They still look like good players long term, but for now it's not happening.

Does anyone know anything about why Ersty was yelling at Heller after the games yesterday?  Saw the tape of it, but have no idea what triggered it.  Heller does seem a lot like Van Horn personality wise.  Prickly and edgy.  Which works better if he's your guy.

Bad start to the game tonight.  Horrible pitch selection at the plate.  Bad defense.  But we hung in there.  Boldt has it going again. But i just don't know if we are any good.   Alvarado and Dilday struggled again.  Was hoping they were the real deal.  Still early.

if NU can find a way to win 7 out of the 9 regular season games remaining...including a series win over Illinois I could still see NU getting a regional in Lincoln.  It will be a tough task winning the Illini series but you never know.
