Here is some (apparently) current/new information: "2013 Hargrave Military (VA) PF Neville Fincher is taking an official visit to Kansas State this weekend."

According to Rivals, this player is 6'8" and 229 lbs.--a power forward with offers from Robert Morris and Towson.

Hopefully, Mr. Fincher is viewed by Kansas St. as a back-up plan to Matthew Atewe.

Lets hope so.. I hope we can land both of these two PF and continue to win more battles over the next couple years. Miles has been a stud when it comes to closing the door so far. March 7th seems to be so long away....

Atewe is the exact type of player that we need and havent been able to land in a decade+

Coming out of high school, how is he any different than Chris Balham?? Same type of player to me. Not saying Atewe can't/won't be better... Just not sure how he's the type of player we haven't been able to land in 10 years.

Balham would be 8+ years before Atewe--he committed in September of 2004. So that part of the post is technically correct. Also, by way of similarity, Balham is originally from France and Atewe is, technically, a foreigner too (from Toronto).

However, examples of differences include, (i) according to Rivals, Balham had offers from Alfred, Bradley, Dayton, Green Bay, Loyolla Chicago and Tulsa--at least Atewe visited Kansas St. who has been ranked this season in the top 25, (ii) Balham had medical problems from the very beginning (originally explained as a "weakness in the legs") that ultimately became debilitating--Atewe appears to have no such problems, and (iii) neither Duke nor any place like it ever made any inquiry of any type to Balham.

Balham's injuries weren't known out of high school. They're both extremely athletic with good bodies, but very raw. Both had/have only played ball for a limited time. I'm not saying identical... Just that I don't see how he's the type of recruit we haven't had in a decade. I would definitely compare him to Balham more than Hamilton or Chandler.

By no means am I trying to say that Attewe would be another Balham at Nebraska. I'm saying Attewe isn't a type of player that we haven't been able to land in a decade. He reminds me of Balham coming out of high school... great body, very athletic, but extremely raw (both had only played organized ball for a few years). Not a bad thing by any means... maybe Balham is a better player with better coaching and less injuries during his time here. I'm simply saying - at this point - he's not anything TOO out of the ordinary.

I certainly trust *any* coaching staff in evaluating talent over myself. I do not claim to be a talent evaluator. But remember, at this point Miles is well past "Plan A", and probably somewhere near "Plan M"... I'd be willing to be Miles wouldn't compare this guy to Derrick Chandler or Venson Hamilton or say that he's a type of guy that Nebraska hasn't had in 10 years.

Maybe all of you remember Derrick Chandler differently than I do. I would never place Venson Hamilton and Derrick Chandler in the same sentence. My memory of Derrick Chandler is a highly skilled defensive player and rebounder, very athletic and very strong. but I would never call Derrick an accomplished offensive player. He was able to grab offensive rebounds and put back dunks but shooting the ball was a real challenge for him. This is why I compared Atewe to a Chandler type.

Big break Huskers? RT @TheRecruitScoop2013 Hargrave Military Academy (VA) PF Neville Fincher has given a verbal commitment to Kansas State.

Kansas State had been leader for@MatthewAtewe41, but now having signed a '13 PF, Atewe's list could be changing#Nebrasketball

This makes me very happy. I wonder about his planned commit date. He may want to reconsider waiting, more and more teams are less likely to wait. (including the Huskers)
