They are eleven deep.  They are long.  They are athletic (well many of the eleven are).  They score.  They defend.  They play a fun style of ball.  They have a couple pr**ks on their team...Can we win?  Sure, we proved last year that on any given night, anything is possible.  But this is going to be a tough one.  We need the entire team to show up and play well.  Let's get er done men!

Been a great opening day for Big Ten hoops!

  • Ohio St put together a nice effort at Purdue - when PU's Hammons decides to assert himself, he's going to be a handful for almost everyone
  • Illinois-Indiana looked more like a late Feb game than late December with all of the intensity and back and forth play - fun OT game - Illinois did what it needed to, hold serve at home
  • Penn State leading Mich St by 7 near half  :o - make it 11 after back to back turnovers!

OK, so this Iowa club is pretty interesting.  Their top 8 scorers are as follows:

Senior  Roy Marble    15.3 ppg

Junior  Aaron White   13.2 ppg

Junior  Josh Oglesby  13.0 ppg

Sophom  J. Uthoff     10.8 ppg

Senior  Zach McCabe    8.2 ppg

Senior  M. Basabe      7.5 ppg

Freshm  Peter Jok      7.3 ppg

Junior  G. Olaseni     6.6 ppg

Top 8 scorers = 3 seniors, 3 juniors, 1 soph and 1 freshman.

Two of their starters, sophomores Mike Gesell and Adam Woodbury, are not in their top 8 in scoring.  In fact, Woodbury, their tallest player, is only 5th on their team in rebounding.

Eleven guys on their team get double figure minutes.  That would probably make White Knuckle cringe.  (Or was that Kidney?  Or maybe it was Bradguru?  Either way ...)

The bottom line of what I was getting at is that this is a very veteran team.  Three of their top 6 scorers are seniors and two of their top 6 are juniors.  In a couple of years, that means they're going to be a fairly UN-veteran team.  Right about the time we become a VERY veteran team.

Interesting about those up and down cycles.  They happen to be hitting us at a very low point in terms of experience.  And with a very experienced team.
