TheKamdyMan Posted September 19, 2013 Report Posted September 19, 2013 Serg played about the same amount of minutes last year as Walter played for Florida as a freshman. Just saying...wait...did I just say that...yikes. Final 4 team > Sitting at home for post season team Quote
Fullbacksympathy Posted September 19, 2013 Report Posted September 19, 2013 Serj will surprise I think. He gained weight and showed a motor. I thought he should've got more pt last year. hhcmatt 1 Quote
FredsSlacks Posted September 19, 2013 Report Posted September 19, 2013 I think we will find out real fast whether Serge and/or Parker are destined to transfer at the end of the season. Quote
Silverbacked1 Posted September 19, 2013 Report Posted September 19, 2013 The Huskers, THEY are going to surprise many this year. Besides us of course. Quote
a0t0w0 Posted September 19, 2013 Report Posted September 19, 2013 The Huskers, THEY are going to surprise many this year. We are going to shock some people this year. Hopefully some folks in Omaha wear blue are some of those people. Silverbacked1 1 Quote
lang Posted September 27, 2013 Report Posted September 27, 2013 Biggs. He is short but his name Biggs. He isn't getting enough love. I don't know if Biggs is my prediction per the original reason for this thread, but he is thee most forgotten man coming into this season it seems. Quote
Norm Peterson Posted September 27, 2013 Author Report Posted September 27, 2013 Biggs. He is short but his name Biggs. He isn't getting enough love. I don't know if Biggs is my prediction per the original reason for this thread, but he is thee most forgotten man coming into this season it seems. Actually, that's why I started the thread and posted about David Rivers. He started for us last year on a team that wasn't horrible. A team that won a first round B1G tourney game. And people are talking all about the freshmen and transfers and, of course, Shavon Shields. But David Rivers isn't getting any love and I'm thinking, hey, the kid started nearly (?) every game last year. He's not chopped liver. All those minutes have probably made him a better player than we really stop to think. He could be pretty good, actually. Don't forget about him. He's the only returning starter from last year who basically gets no love at all. Quote
lang Posted September 27, 2013 Report Posted September 27, 2013 Very good point Norm. I've tended to forget about David for sure. When I said what I said about Biggs, I wasn't even thinking about David and he's an even better example b/c we know more about him. So yea, full circle...very good example. It seems pretty natural that his minutes will be less this year. That doesn't mean he can't take a step up however and we'd all be thrilled at that. Quote
jimmykc Posted September 27, 2013 Report Posted September 27, 2013 You know, after reading this morning's LJS, I'm beginning to think that MIke Peltz may garner a lot more minutes than most of us think. He is seriously strong, has been very diligent in his rehab, is a hard nosed competitor, and a favorite of coach Miles since high school days. Since he does not have much need to be an offensive force this year, he might have a role to play. Maybe he could annoy Aaron Craft into committing a few fouls, for example. Quote
Norm Peterson Posted September 27, 2013 Author Report Posted September 27, 2013 Jimmy, from what the coaches say, he's seriously fast as well. I'm wondering if that's straight line speed as opposed to change-of-direction quickness. If he's both quick and fast, you could be right. Quote
Norm Peterson Posted September 27, 2013 Author Report Posted September 27, 2013 Great article in the LJS today. If you were looking for a reason to increase your "GEEKED!!!" level, reading that article is one way of doing it. The team is leaner, stronger and faster than last year. Sounds like significantly so. Players apparently really bought in to the strength and conditioning program. The S&C coach said it was the most committed group of players he'd seen in 30 years of doing this. Several players increased their squat by 90 pounds or more. From the article: “We’re in way better shape right now than we were last year,” said Terran Petteway, a sophomore transfer from Texas Tech. “Way better shape.” If you want to get exited about Shavon Shields, there's plenty of reason. He's grown half an inch, gained 10 pounds, and won the "tough guy" test, which is a combo of strength and speed. In the conditioning drill (running lines) Peltz was fastest, followed by Biggs, Petteway, Shields and Webster. That would suggest to me that Shields is pretty fast for a guy his size. Gallegos has a 43 inch vertical (that's Jordanesque.) Three other players had 40s, including Pitchford, Biggs and Benny frickin' Parker. (Yep, he's got a shot to win the dunk contest with a vertical like that.) I remember when Tom Wald had the best vertical on the team at, like, 36 inches. This year, we have 4 players with verticals in the 40s. That's darn good. Especially when one of them is 6'10". http://journalstar.com/sports/huskers/mens-basketball/stronger-leaner-huskers-ready-for-hoops-scrimmage/article_2835273a-d39d-596b-930f-a3bfeb51dfc6.html Quote

Cybrrmonky Posted September 28, 2013 Report Posted September 28, 2013 After seeing the scrimmage. Hawkins without a doubt. Seems to be ready to go. Thought he looked the best of the 3 Freshmen. Webster of course has the most upside but Hawkins appears to be a guy that can do a little of everything & doesn't have the look of a wide eyed freshman. Hooper 1 Quote
