Most of us baby boomers probably started with either something like:

or the black option...

You may have also optioned for the same looking style made by P.F.Flyer or Keds if your mom found them at a better price.

two color choices....what more could a boy ask for?

Anyone remember the Nike Haurache?  By no means my first basketball shoe but I had a pair back in the early 90s when they first came out.  Think I might still have them.  Somewhere.  Purple and green neoprene "sock" inside a white leather upper.  Sweet shoe.

Great shoe.  I ruined my first pair by neglecting to wear socks (gross, I know).  Spent a pretty penny on an original pair in the early 2000s and the sole crumbled into fine powder the first time I wore them.  I've seen the low cut model in stores recently.  Nike forgot how to make good shoes so they release "retros".  Then they charge $200 and people end up getting shot/trampled/mugged trying to get a pair.

I would still wear them but my wife has banned them.

I know, I saw they released my Pennys and I was totally going to buy a pair....until I saw the price. They must have adjusted for inflation a couple of times.

I'm thinking that's what I had Dean.   I just called them "Dr J's".   You could buy "irregulars" at Gerry's Sporting Goods-downtown Lincoln for half price ( around $20 ) in the early '80's.    That's all a poor boy like me could afford.   When I got the paper route and the money started rolling....then I think I purch'd some of the full priced ones.   I used to wear through the bottom of them playing on cement and would then try to fix them up with "shoe goo"....never worked very well.

Adidas "top 10's" were pretty cool and seemed well built.   Never had a pair though.

Im not quite sure what my first basketball shoes were but i remember my dad gave me the option of buying one pair of Air Jordan's in like 96-97 or buying two pair's of lesser cost nike's or reebok cant remember which..but i know i had two pair.. than through Jr.High and High School i was strickly a Iverson man or some for of Nike. I had the Question's and the Answer's. In high school i had the Nike Shox Bomber which were one of my favorite shoes, followed by some decent Addidas since than my luck has been as good, im wearing Under Armour's right now and they kinda suck.
