The Army we have

  1. 1. How would we fare this year with the Army we presently have?

    • Talley and Ubel were undervalued assets. Afraid we possibly aren't as good.
      2
    • We'll be deeper but far less experienced. Probably a push. We'll be about as good.

    • Our new players more than offset what we lost, plus the B1G will be down. We'll be a little better.

    • We'll be much deeper, much more athletic, and much more talented. With a down B1G, we'll be MUCH better.

Thanks!  Been an NU hoops fan since the days of Carl Hayes.  I've been lurking for awhile; this is the best board for big red hoops discussion so I figured it was time to join.  Hard to not be excited with the way the Tim Miles era has started B)

Two things:

We have to be careful with the APR issue, which s why I think the transfer option is the best possibility.

Miles is getting in early on some players for future classes. These relationships should and need to start paying off in 2014.

I think bringing players on official visits into a sold out Pinnacle Bank and making the post season could be huge. Compared to the environment Atewe had on his visit for example which I thought stunk.

Welcome to the board Busticket

Seems like we keep adding new members at a fairly regular clip these days.  Did you notice Bruce Chubick registered late last week?  :)

If we don't add anyone else....seems like a whiff on our part.

Well, if I'm not mistaken, today is the last day of the late signing period.  So, unless we get a kid to enroll (and check the right box on his UNL admissions application) in August without an LOI ... did we whiff?

I'm still crossing my fingers for a last second surprise of a grad transfer to play the 5-spot, but I'm sure we are done.

Now it's time for Vucetic to take his sleeping bag to the weightroom and camp out until practice starts next season.  Should probably have meals delivered to him there hourly too.  He has to get above 250 lbs by next season.

I could camp with him and get him over 250 by this fall.  But he might be more Andreish than some would like.

Andreish, that's a good one!

I think we could have a rough start as they learn to play together and then we will hit out stride right when the schedule comes and smacks us in the face.  In other words I think we have a rough year and finishing above .500 would be an accomplishment.

We only lose Ray next year so 2014 should be a good stepping stone where we can make the NIT.

I understand that we could have a rough go next year. That's certainly possible. But I don't see the reason (excuse) being guys learning to play together. Im not eliminating the possibility of disappointment, but i'm just cautiously expecting more positive surprises than negatives. This last years team lacked talent, depth, athleticism, and were learning the ropes and offense of a 1st year head coach. What did the team do? They improved every day all the way to the end of the season. Next season, year two of Tim Miles, you've got way more bodies. Way more talent. Way more athleticism. But yes, lots of newcomers and some young guys. Three of those 'newcomers' aren't really newcomers. The other new guys will get plenty of time with the team over the summer and get to work with the coaches during that extended practice time before the season that was initiated last year. Coach Miles said on numerous occasions that the extra time the NCAA allowed really saved last years team and allowed them to get more work in the new offense. I think next years team will acclimate just fine.
