I know it's early to talk about next season but what the hell.  I will throw in my 2 cents worth.  Assuming every one comes back that can and Natalie has a successful recovery we could take another step up the ladder.  But we need a couple of portal  players that could be starters as mentioned in numerous postings in the past.  We will have three remaining players next year that will all be sophmores that are high quality starters.  The rest of the remaining team would provide a great bench.  From the portal we need a center to patrol the middle and a  tough and fast defensive minded guard that can handle the ball and take it to the hoop..

Our past two freshmen classes proves that young players can help take a team to the next level.  Next year we have a couple coming in that appear capable of making a difference.

If we go to the portal, or Europe we may get a couple more.  And yes, we need at least one additional power player.

May I add, we have seen that fit/chemistry is of utmost importance.  So "fit"  is necessary.

I think you will see a lot of her on the floor next year. If you look at the last few recruiting classes, it looks like Amy is building a team that will run up and down the court. As much as she likes to substitute, I wonder if we will see some of what Tennessee does substituting five at a time every few minutes. The Tennessee women play like it is a hockey game. Petra is the only recruit in the last several classes that doesn’t have speed in her game. I laughed a little yesterday when the announcer mentioned that Alexis didn’t even make it across half court on one Louisville possession. With the exception of Petra, that shouldn’t be a problem next year.

Respectfully, I don’t see anyone on our roster who has tournament-level speed in their skill set with the possible exception of Britt.  In fact, I would assert that team speed/quickness/athleticism is a big liability against most quality opponents.  Plus, to run you first have to rebound and we just lost our only high quality rebounder.  Now, if we add an athletic big and a couple of quick tenacious guards, that could change.  But I don’t expect Amy to be aggressive in the portal given her emphasis on culture/family.  We’ll probably add one big who can play well against mediocre competition but will be dominated against the good teams.

I see TCU  has one of those mercenary teams.  Bought and Paid for.  Works if they play well together.

Last year TCU had to forfeit games and have open tryouts in February to have enough players to finish the season. It was a wake up call for the alumni. Some influential alumni said never again and asked the coach what he needed to compete. Then, they gave the money and got it done. I wish we would do that here. TCU got competitive in volleyball this year the same way. It doesn’t cost as much to compete in women’s sports, but the alumni have to step up with the donations.

Michigan had no rebounders this year and started five guards. With three freshmen in their lineup, they look like they are headed in the right direction to me.

I also like their trajectory, but they still got blown out (and out-rebounded by 11) by Notre Dame.  You could just as easily say that UM started four forwards, since four of their ‘guards’ are over 6’.  We could do that as well if we had four or more long, athletically skilled players.  But we have at most two (Hargrove and Potts if she’s back to pre-injury level).  And I don’t expect the current coaching staff to develop or recruit more (please🙏 prove me wrong!).  Hence their likely direction unfortunately differs from ours.

Years ago we were routinely out rebounded but that was a priority to correct which we did for the most part. And not totally because of Markowki. The next step is to correct the turnover problem.  Some of that was from our basically young team.  We had way too many unforced ones which can be the difference in winning or losing a close game.
