I know, Fred needs to get a Couple of Real Ringers in the Portal.

Yep.   He can’t afford to have another offseason like last year.   And I’m not buying the hype that Rhymes,Frager and Janowski are going to be difference makers this year.    Contributors?   Sure.   7th/8th/9th men?   Sure.  Starters who carry the team?    No.

Have you seen them practice this year?

But yes, we need a stud point guard, et al.  The lack of talent brought in last season was glaring.  When I watch the elite eight games, I ask myself if any of our players would start on those teams.  Maybe one player, maybe.

The fact that they weren’t definitively better than that glaring lack of talent, you reference is why we should be hesitant to be relying on them in major roles.

this isn’t to say that they can’t contribute next year or wont become high-level players in the future, but it’s probably not very realistic to think it’s gonna happen next year, nor will it be safe to rely on.

Until the cold harsh reality of next season is upon us those guys that sat are the pocket aces Hoiberg waited to play. This is all a master plan. Glory awaits us.

I remember when Pike and company were freshmen.  That "scout team" gave absolute fits to the starters in practice.  Have that team tell stories of some of the battles that took place.

I'm not about to compare that group of players to this year's redshirts/scout team; but it is important to point out that they are talented and now they have one year of development under their belts.

Hey I understand the hesitation to acknowledge that they may be better than pedestrian role players, so we shall see.  And yes, I continue to agree we need to secure some studs via the portal.

I mean a hit rate of every 35 years for our reshirt freshman to vastly exceed expectations actually sounds about right for Nebraska Basketball. Anyone know how those '55 redshirts did?

Bwahahahaha nevermind I rescind my optimism. The '55 team was coached by Jerry Bush and went 7-16 😐

There were no redshirts in '55.
