Hopefully it’s not gone were the days….

Ive never seen an organization hire a hiring firm only to rehire the same coach.

Apparently the metric they used to determine the coaching hire this time around was created by Gregg. Surprisingly it turns out he fits that metric the best. Craig Burley on ESPN FC said everyone involved in the decision were “a bunch of muppets.” We had to hire an outside firm because no one in USA soccer knows what they’re doing? And we end up where we started?

Gio has shown he’s more important to the team than Gregg is. He needs to play in the middle from here on out. And Flo is the striker we’ve needed. A clinical finisher on top takes this team to a whole new level.

The US looked really tough with our starting 11 out there.  Subs struggled a bit, but Canada was in panic mode so hard to completely judge.

Hope Gio is ok.  Dude needs minutes, but is an absolute FORCE in the middle.

Balo is what we've been waiting for up top.  He's quick, he's got skill, and he's a creator.

LDLT and Aaronson will be great options to have off the bench.

My goodness... if we can stay healthy, 2026 could be special.

Chris Richard’s also showed tonight what so many of us have seen over the years.  The dude was so legit in the bundesliga and then went to an odd situation at crystal palace which I didn’t like when it happened.  I think when he’s healthy he’s a starter, Scally also showed why he played every game this year for mogengladbach the battle between him and dest will be fun to see.

The great thing about the Scally/Dest situation is it provides two completely different styles of play.  Pick your weapon.

Dest is a far better offensive option and Scally is a really good one on one defender who plays passing lanes well.  You can stretch the field with one and then lock down with another, I thought the way Scally played Davies today was excellent, didn’t really get beat bad one on one and sniffed out a lot of final third play.  Was very physical and took away a lot of link up play between Davies and David, canadas two best offensive weapons.

I can only think of one time where Scally got burned and that was late.  However, Weah was right there and allowed Scally time to catch up.

lol I’m pretty sure weah has been playing a lot of left back at Lille last season so they were going to be fine

Solid win tonight, Kinda really made his presence felt

SKC has really turned it on and the west is a cluttered mess.

The US C team has done well in the Gold Cup too.

I had to pause for a second when you called the French Ligue 1 "a top 5 league."  There's an obvious top 4 that is heads and shoulders above everyone else in the world.  I guess France could make the argument that their domestic league is #5, given the recent-ish success of PSG.  But it feels weird to call a league with one superpower and a bunch of scrubs as a top 5 league.  That's like calling the WCC a Top 5 college basketball league simply because Gonzaga happens to be a member.

Ligue 1 is incredibly top heavy, and the bottom half of the league is not any better than your average MLS side.  Their scrubs really are bad by top flight league standards.  And that's not really a hot take when you look at salaries for the two leagues.  There's a bunch of dudes starting for Ligue 1 sides making $300k and less, just like in MLS.

I would contend that the average team from England's Championship is significantly better than the average Ligue 1 (or MLS) side.  Honestly I would put the Championship as the fifth best league in the world, and would probably put the Eredivisie above Ligue 1 too.  But I also look more at a league top to bottom when considering strength, while I realize most people look mostly at the strength of the top teams while mainly considering results in Champions League and Europa.  And from that point of view Ligue 1 is fifth rather than in that 7-10 range like I contend they should be.

One other quibble -- Scottish Premiership better than MLS? Really?  We could send our best MLS teams to get smashed 7-1 in Champions League action just like Rangers does.  The difference is that the gap from top to bottom in MLS isn't nearly as large as the gap in Scottish Premiership.  Scotland has only two teams with a pulse many seasons.  I do agree we need promotion and relegation though.

I'll just leave this right here.  https://www.forbes.com/sites/steveprice/2023/07/04/why-frances-ligue-1-has-dropped-out-of-uefas-top-five-leagues/?sh=1089694ee152

And why is Ligue 1 no longer a top 5 league?  Because they are incredibly top heavy with a single superpower and a bunch of scrubs.  I sure wish someone had said this a couple months ago.  😜

"Paris Saint-Germain are on a different level from the rest of Ligue 1...This can be seen in UEFA’s club coefficients. PSG are 6th in Europe, but the next best French team, Lyon, is ranked 26th, and Rennes is the only other French side in the top 50."

I don’t know. Playoffs are looking like a pretty long shot for SKC at this point.

We keep squandering 1 and 2 goal leads.  If we hold that lead last night, we’re in a playoff spot.  Just sucks.  We can’t do that at home.

In US news, our B/C team lost to Panama last night and was eliminated from the Gold Cup.  I’m not 100% against us bringing a B/C team to the Gold Cup, but I would have liked to see a few more RISE to the occasion with their play.

Wished we would have gotten Gaga a game in against a Caribbean Island team.

Stock Rising: Sands, Jones, Neal, Cowell

Stock Same (maybe small bump up/down): Busio, Ferreira, Vasquez , Robinson, Mihaliovic, Gaga, Turner, Reynolds, Tolkin, AMorris, Gressel

Stock Falling: Sonora, Zendejas

I would assume only there for veteran presence and not planning on for the WC 2026: Johnson, Long, Miazga, Yedlin, Roldan, Morris

Just crushing…literally seconds away from getting the win on the road…down a man…against the best team in MLS…who hasn’t lost at home all season and only drawn once.

Damn.

We find more ways to lose than Nebraska football has the past 6 years.
