Red Don Posted December 5, 2020 Report Posted December 5, 2020 (edited) Good Game for Lady Huskers 2020 Opener. All the transfers & newcomers looked like they have played together as a team for a long time. Everyone who suited up played, and everyone but Ashley Scoggin scored. Impressive showing for the Returning players, transfers, and incoming class. Everyone stepped-up when needed! Final Stats: Edited December 5, 2020 by Red Don mwm89 and 12dozen 2 Quote
redsteve Posted December 5, 2020 Author Report Posted December 5, 2020 (edited) Nice opening game. Shooting is better as a team.....lots of scorers. Like things about everybody. The new kids played a lot better in the second half. We're pretty well balanced. The post players will be stout this year. Have numerous guards that can play. Defense will have to pick up the intensity Stewart will turn out to be a huge get. Cravens was markedly better after she played a half. Good stuff overall. We're going to be better than last year. Cazzie22 Posted December 5, 2020 Report Posted December 5, 2020 Good line for Haiby. Nice to get plenty of balanced scoring. Good start but ORU didn’t have their best player. Red Don and mwm89 1 1 Quote

HUD Posted December 5, 2020 Report Posted December 5, 2020 Only one game but what a start for 2 of our freshmen in first game. Stewart 16 min, 12 pts, 7 reb, 1 ast, 2 stl, 1 blk, and 0 t/o. Brown 15 min, 5 pts, 2 reb, 1 ast, 4 stl, 0 t/o. They should be first off the bench. whoopdeedoo and Red Don 1 1 Quote

It's only been one game, but will offer my amateur observations.. Agree on Stewart and Brown. I was expecting a good showing from Stewart, but Brown took me by surprise. That kid has some serious BBall IQ. Newcomers Cravens and Porter seemed to settle in nicely, after shaky starts. I think they too, will contribute a bunch. Sam, Izzy, and Kate form a nice nucleus to build around. Not sure what to say about Bourne. She is a stud. Kate, really looks to be in good condition. If she can avoid the fouls, she could be on the floor a lot. Sam might be the key. The ball is in her hands (literally and figuratively). Too early to get concerned, but if I were, it would center around point guard and ball security. ORU pressed very little. But, when they did, we were having trouble bringing the ball up (deja vu). The BIG has several teams that bring the pressure. We will need Helms and Scoggin to step up. (or possibly, someone else to heal up) Overall, I was very impressed by how well they played. And, they did this with with limited practice. Welcome back ladies! Red Don and HUD 2 Quote
redsteve Posted December 5, 2020 Author Report Posted December 5, 2020 (edited) After a night to think about it...... One thing that may just be a first game deal, and should change with floor time...is scoring by the guards. Other than Brady and Sam...we'll need some improvement in scoring. We're getting production out of the front court....but can we rely on that too much? Is there another shooter in the bunch of guards Was that Emily Wood i saw ? someone reminded me of Emily. Red Don Posted December 5, 2020 Report Posted December 5, 2020 Shots were falling (46.7% from 3 & 50% fgs), They were feeling it. Shots always won't be falling (see MBB vs Nevada) but I saw a lot of good offensive plays in the paint, to both Kate & Annika. Defenses will adjust to that but still a lot of assists and opportunities to score inside. It seemed to me passing was crisper than I remembered from the past couple of years, and movement seemed really good. It's just one game, but results are highly encouraging; our first game vs an opponents who has played twice before. I'm very surprised how good returning players looked, they really seem to have matured & upped their games, and the new players showed well, to boot. Stay-Tuned! 12dozen 1 Quote
KarlHessEatMy.... Posted December 5, 2020 Report Posted December 5, 2020 I think scroggin had an off first game but I think she will help with the 3 point shooting eventually. Also Brown will be the next emily wood.. I really liked her. I see scholarship in her future if I remember right she is a walk on. But yes I am also scared of pressure we just don't have the ball control for it. I could see that giving us a lot of trouble. HUD, mwm89, Red Don and 1 other 1 3 Quote

Tom Jones Posted December 5, 2020 Report Posted December 5, 2020 agree with Bugs. It's gone WAY nuts. I mean I can see why 1000s of people are not admitted to PBA but ONE game caller per media?? seems like Matt could have socially distance times 20 at least! Bugeaters1, mwm89 and Noah121 3 Quote
