Iowa vs. Nebraska Game Thread

Don't know if people will be at the game tonight. With the way the roads are in Lincoln. We may not be making as well.

I made a trip from south central Nebraska to Lincoln late yesterday afternoon.   The highways and interstate from York in were fine--dry pavement and normal speeds.  The roads in the city limit of Lincoln are still bad.

• The Nebraska women’s basketball team takes aim for a season series split with No. 10 Iowa before celebrating Senior Night on Monday at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

• Tip off between Nebraska (13-14, 8-8 Big Ten) and the No. 10 Hawkeyes (21-6, 12-4 Big Ten) is set for 7:30 p.m. (CT). Live radio coverage (beginning at 7:15 p.m.) can be heard in Lincoln on B107.3 FM, in Omaha on ESPN 590 AM, in Lexington on 880 AM KRVN and across the state on the Husker Sports Network. (Big Ten) Women's Sports Report: of the teams sitting at 8-8 (MSU, Minny, Purdue, Nebraska, NW) they give Minny the best shot at winning out (2 games-@Rutgers, home against MSU). Why?....stated that Minny is now the team playing the best ball on both ends of the court. 

 

Also, their preview of the Iowa game: for iowa, 3pt defense against nebraska will be the key. For huskers, if they can hold gusty under 30, it could give huskers a shot at pulling the upset.

Super excited for this.  I plan to be and hope everyone else is.  I predict a close game.  Think our best chance is getting under their point guards skin.  The former huskers temper prone mentality is the best way to keep Gusty out of the game.

• The Huskers are coming off back-to-back wins after working their way to a 71-64 win at Northwestern, following an 82-71 win over No. 24 Michigan State at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

• Nebraska is one of four teams with an 8-8 record. The Huskers have at least one win over every team (Michigan, Ohio State, Minnesota, Purdue [2], Northwestern and Michigan State) in the No. 4 through No. 9 spots in the conference standings as of Feb. 22.

Prior to the loss the Hawkeyes had put themselves in the driver’s seat for the No. 1 seed at the Big Ten Tournament with an 86-73 win over No. 7 Maryland, but a Maryland win against Minnesota Thursday put the Terps back on top in the conference race.
• Iowa is led by All-American Megan Gustafson, a 6-3 senior forward, with 2,542 career points and 1,332 career rebounds in her 126 career games. She is shooting a career-best 70.4 percent from the field and 78 percent at the free throw line.
• Over the last six games, Gustafson is averaging 30.7 points and 14.5 rebounds. In the first meeting with Nebraska this season, she had 28 points and 17 boards.

• Iowa leads the Big Ten in scoring (80.6 ppg), field goal percentage (.519), free throw percentage (.762) and assists (21.9 apg) while ranking 11th in the conference in scoring defense (68.6 ppg) and ninth in field goal percentage defense (.405) and three-point field goal percentage defense (.319).

Yes, weather, roads and District Basketball Games going to hurt the crowd but our attendance will be better than a lot of teams!
