  1. I can firmly attest that it is not a vegetable at least, although Wisconsin's student section may not be aware of that either.
  2. Might even increase it...screams of terror sound a lot like yelling during free throws.
  3. And a third on Craft's dingaling, it seems. So, so tired of his "defense".
  4. Wonder if Tim (or Jean, for that matter) has been to a football game. Usually it times out that the opposing team runs onto the field during the Tunnel Walk (if not slightly before...when the stadium is yelling Husker Power). We're playing loud music and Husker highlights, or yelling exactly the same thing. Surely that is unsportsmanlike also? Where are the letters of outrage about that? Oh, right, you were used to finishing knitting a new pair of mittens or reading your dog-eared copy of some classic Tolstoy while you waited for a peaceful tipoff and that pesky yelling is kind of distracting.
  5. Interesting. Assuming we get past UCLA (I like our odds), we have a third-round matchup with Doc at Iowa State (assuming they get past NC Central...probably good odds there too). Wonder if that makes for some awkward reunions.
  6. Staff too please? Tim does a great job, but he's said (quite a bit, on the record) that he has great people around him. He may not be looking elsewhere, but his staff may become a decent commodity after this year. I've wondered some if part of the problem Doc had was that the assistants were (comparatively, anyway) paid peanuts and he couldn't keep them here. IIRC, Brandon Ubel had something like 13 different coaches through his career here. If we're handing out free money, let's include them too.
  7. I actually think it was fair too...Dirk has been here longer than Miles. He's a Nebraska alum. He grew up with Husker sports. By his own admission, before becoming a supposedly impartial member of the media, he was a Husker fan. So it stands to reason that, while, it's not Miles' baggage, it IS Nebraska Basketball's. As much as we were around for it, so was he. So I don't really see the problem with asking about Nebraska Basketball's (former) woes at a Nebraska Basketball press conference, especially with so much on the line, in a game we historically would have pissed away. I suspect the question would have been asked, win or lose. We just got a happier answer with a win.
  8. Had a lot of dust in my section...that's what I'm claiming for the watery eyes during senior intros. Maybe it's the happily-ever-after girl in me, but Peltz proposing had me in tears. Nebraska Basketball has a funny way of bringing out the romantic in me. And then at the end of the game, I dragged my dad onto the court with me when I rushed it. He'd never done anything like that, so kind of a cool moment to share with him.
  9. A. He's not a walk-on. He started that way, but was awarded a scholarship, presumably not for having the best hair on the team. So technically, while he occupies basically a walk-on role, he is not without the validation of a scholarship. B. He contributes more than we give him credit for. Maybe not on the court during games with points and rebounds, but Terran isn't as tough without someone tough pushing him. C. Although there is no guarantee that we will be in this position again in the near future, I guess I would certainly hope we would be. That's the whole reason of firing Doc and hiring Miles, isn't it? To be in precisely this spot (or better)? D. It's not a ludicrous proposition and the thread shouldn't be deleted. It's valid conversation. Believe me when I say that I have just as much invested in this team as anyone here, but I also wouldn't laugh off the idea of Peltz starting, or the guys rallying around that (Us Always should extend to the bench, should it not?). Would I do it personally, if I were the coach? No, probably not. But I also don't think it's so crazy as not to consider it duly first. Ultimately, it's Miles' call, and could go either way. Personnel decisions are up to the coaching staff, not us, but it's fun to talk about, much in the same way the offseason is filled with prognostications of who will start, even without seeing a single minute of in-game action. Further, civil disagreement is what makes this a great message board. Laughing at, belittling, or invalidating someone's opinion, simply because they disagree with you, takes away from that atmosphere. I thought we were above that.
  10. Also factor in the eastern half of CSU's roster while Miles was there...Eikmeier, Smith A and Smith B (and maybe one more? Where was Colton Iverson from?) to go along with Carr.
  11. If you're talking quality of assistant (which can, and often today, DOES impact the quality of recruit), Miles also has something like twice the budget for salaries that Doc did, so there's that. In my diabolical mind, sometimes I wonder what would happen if we could find a time machine and transport Miles to the pre-practice facility Devaney or transport year-2 Doc to the arena. Time has a way of glossing over some faults while bringing others out, and there's a certain optimism that goes with newness. The saying that only time will tell is a cliche for a reason. I like Miles a lot. I also liked Doc a lot. But I think a lot of us were pretty pleased with the Year 2 version of Doc (20-12 record that year, with wins over a handful of ranked teams), just as much as we are with the Year 2 version of Miles, and as much as I'm hoping to see us project upward more, it's still a little too early to make any sweeping judgments yet.
  12. My 62-year-old dad and his 62-year-old buddy considered rushing the court...but thought it might look a little odd if they were the only "grown-ups" on the court. But they've never gotten to do that before and were a little bummed to NOT go. (this is one reason I love my dad.)
  13. I wonder if some of it isn't just that last year, he was an unknown quantity, so teams weren't necessarily able to prepare as well for him (he was a true freshman, then injured for a while, so their film on him wouldn't have been all that plentiful). This year, they have more of a sample size to see what he brings to the floor, and shut him down accordingly -- much like what we saw happen with Ray last year. I don't know if it's so much a slump as it is that he has a certain skill set (that admittedly is up to him to continue to expand) and teams are better able to prepare for him and make him more of a focal point of their defense than they did last year when they also had to shut down Ray, Brandon and Dylan (known quantities). Shavon has the added bonus that he's very smart, and last year I think we may have been spoiled with him because he has some talent but he also I think knew how to exploit that when teams weren't prepared for him. I'm not so sure we won't see something similar happen with Terran and Deverell next year -- guys who were more or less unknowns coming into this year who have put up big numbers in a hurry but will be more of a defensive focal point for teams next year (or even later this year, for that matter) with more film available of them now to focus on.
  14. I'll bite...I've been to a decent number of away games, I'd say (about a dozen in the last 5-6 years) and it seems to be a couple of factors. Newer gyms seem more cavernous, which seems to mean less noise (i.e. Mizzou -- beautiful arenas but it's like a museum vs. Minnesota in the Barn -- when they got going, HOLY CRAP it was loud). Obviously better teams = more raucous fans (KU, Texas at the time we played them, I think in 2009? Whenever DJ Augustin was still there). And then quality of play, obviously, is a factor (Iowa State when they scored 11 points in the first half against us vs. Iowa State in the second half when they came back to beat us). In-game entertainment (not so much halftime, but during timeouts) made a difference too -- K State and Cincy both played almost exclusively Jock Jams and that god-awful roaring noise, but their fans didn't get pumped much; Iowa State had some really awkward promos but also some really good ones; Texas and Minnesota actually had some of the better ones I've seen). Creighton is just Creighton...lots of congregating around the beer stands, but they can get loud too. I'd venture to say we fall somewhere in the middle, but it's a spectrum based on those factors too. When we played well, avoiding the awkwardly-timed Runza Roundball Rampage, in the Devaney, we'd rank up there as one of the louder places I've visited. When we play poorly against Northern Illinois in a brand-new, not-all-that-intimate arena with a really high ceiling...not so much. Obviously others may differ, and I'd say I have a decent sample size compared to a lot of fans but there are always going to be more well-traveled fans than I am (like I said, I haven't been a fan long compared to a lot of lifers here, and this is all pretty recent). But that's just been my observation.
  15. Legitimately asking, because my seats are at the opposite end of the court from where the action was and when people stand up, I have some trouble seeing (I'm not just a girl, but a SHORT girl)...I get that Michigan scored some points toward the end when Benny was in. But were those points because of his defensive breakdowns, or did they come while he happened to be in the game? I know the game is about teamwork and lineups and help defense can be a big deal -- but considering what we've seen from Benny so far this season (not great offense, but generally solid defender) it seems weird that the defensive breakdown would be due to him specifically. I just wonder if he's a scapegoat (as in, there were blown defensive plays but nothing he could have done anything about because he was doing his job, and his guy was sealed off) or if he was really the root of it. Like I said, it could legitimately be either, for all I know...it was too late last night when I got home (and frankly, I was too tired of getting punched in the gut) to re-watch that part, but I couldn't really see it live. Any insight?
  16. I'm not sure they had to pay for the tickets, but rather just "claim" them, and I get that it was supposedly assigned seating but I'm guessing it was assigned seating in the way it was at football games when I was in college, as in your ticket has a seat number on it but it's not likely that you'll be sitting there. (Red Zone members, correct me if I'm wrong -- I very well may be.) Regardless, it seemed to be about on par with the rest of the year -- most of the side section filled up with students checking Instagram, and the end section filled with single-game people. The only difference was that the 300 section seats were also filled, albeit with fans who may have been making noise but are too high to hear, which means we at least sold those seats rather than just having people move down to sit there. Then again, the whole place was pretty quiet until the last 10 minutes or so. I could carry on conversations at normal volume with my dad sitting with me for most of the game. We have decent seats in the 100 level, but it gets sort of awkward when we can hear the guys talking on the bench...but it's quiet enough in there that sometimes we can.
  17. I was at the game and David was there. He had his hair different (French braided?) but was definitely right there on the bench, like usual this season apparently. Kinda wish he would have gotten in for a few minutes...not sure what it would have hurt to at least try something different when two of your main guys are having such an off day (and I get that Miles wasn't happy with his output for a while, but I have to think he's served his time and with the usual suspects coming up mostly empty and us starting to mouth-breathe in the second half, it seems like a logical time to throw something new at the wall), but I'm certainly not the coach so what do I know.
  18. For whatever it's worth, for a bunch of reasons, I tend to agree with the OP. Think of that what you will, but I've been less than impressed with the student section, this year and basically for the last decade. I suspect there are a lot of factors, but aside from the FGCU game (and to some extent, Miami, but even then I wasn't exactly blown away), it's been pretty pitiful. I don't expect there to be a solid mass of people every game, and I know there are the crew on here who work hard to change the atmosphere in the student section. But there's quite a bit of work to do still, and I guess I don't think it's all that crazy, on a message board, to say so.
  19. In all truth, my friend and I made it into a drinking game...one drink for every time Dougie got fouled (or "fouled") and two for every time he flopped. The first half became infinitely more watchable.
  20. Any respect I had for McDermott, I lost very quickly when I saw his tweet. They didn't replay the initial camera angle as much (the one they replayed makes Gibbs look less like a dick) but on the angle they used originally on the play when it was live, you clearly see Gibbs taking a swing (and missing, entertainingly) at Terran's head. Look at the 0:10 point. If that's hustle, why do we even have a basketball? Hell, let's go full-on UFC. Gibbs is disgusting, obviously, but this we knew. I thought McDermott was better than that, but nope. He's just as bad for encouraging that. I think Doug Gottlieb has something to say about that sort of play? Someone said it in another thread, but I would LOVE to see Gibbs try that on Terran off the court somewhere. He would be down in .2 second and it wouldn't even be close. As much as I was frustrated by watching TP earlier in the season, he's grown on me a lot the past couple games, and his play just sealed his spot as one of my favorite Huskers of all time...and really, is there ever an excuse to NOT straight-up clock Grant Gibbs?
  21. Isn't Diante Garrett quite a bit taller too, though? I recall Ray doing a pretty good job on him a while back. Different kind of player, but Ray's done OK guarding guys taller than he is, if I'm remembering right. Just with the rate that Shields picks up fouls, I'd hate to count on him to take on one of their key cogs (especially if he'd get three FTs every time, not just two). Ray is a little more solid defensively, or at least a little cleaner as far as the refs/new rules are concerned, and we need Shields to stay in the game. I could see Pitchford there some too, though.
  22. I loved the last time Mike Peltz was on Grant Gibbs. Gibbs got up with a scratched face and Peltz was pounding his chest like a roided-out ape. Made my whole day. Gibbs likes those stupid mind games (a la Wrist-gate with Henson in the NCAAs a couple years ago) but isn't particularly good once you get in HIS head. So if it's not Peltz on him, I'm hoping whoever it is finds enough maturity to ignore the little jabs Gibbs will be trying to get in (and maybe get a shot or two of his own in). I'd let Ray chase Wragge around. He has the height Benny doesn't to keep Wragge from getting a shot off and doesn't usually pick up a ton of dumb fouls. I hope I'm not wrong, but I'm not terribly worried about anyone besides Wragge and McDermott. If you can take away Wragge, and play clean, I think you just let Doug score and make him beat you solo. (He still very well may, but it'll be a lot harder to do at least.)
  23. I'll be there with some gal pals. The hubby told me not to get myself kicked out. I made no promises.
  24. AMEN HB. Rarely will you see me encouraging people to drink a lot. This is one of those rare times, if it means a fun atmosphere (and time to yell it out before driving home on slippery roads). DRINK UP FOLKS!
  25. Mike Peltz will volunteer as tribute.
