Great OWH article on state of the women's program
Cazzie22 replied to HuskerFan86's topic in Row 6 Seat 10
Something needs to happen in Women's BB. UConn, ND, Tennessee and Stanford have a headlock on the game and the major talent. UConn is clearly assisted by being in ESPN's backyard for recruiting. I would think their conference isn't going to provide much of a challenge so they will have to continue to play a strong non-conference schedule. California is a newcomer to the Final Four and a good showing by the Bears might be a sign that some changes are forthcoming. -
Kim Mulkey is always worth the price of admission! But from a male's point of view Sherri Coale will always be my favorite! Baylor should have put Griner up at High Post and force fed Brooklyn Pope and Destiny Williams underneath. The Bears will be OK next year, they still have Odyssey Sims and Mulkey can recruit.

If Hooper can come up with a more effective post game, she could move up to 2nd or 3rd team All-American. Everyone on the squad needs to step up to replace Moore if the team is going to match this year's success.
-
NU battled and defended well today. Just could not hit any shots when we needed them to go down. Stretch at the end of the first half probably cost us the game. Proud of the Lady Huskers! If everyone steps up their game and some of the incoming recruits provide some depth next year can be a nice year as well.

I watched UT all season. McClellan is spectacular at times and at times disappeared, especially on the defensive end of the court. That doesn't sit well with Barnes. I personally admire Barnes for sticking to his expectations and he is heavily criticized by the Austin press for bencing McClellan for long stretches. Coaches run their programs, or should, at all levels and if players don't do what the coaches want they should sit...or look elsewhere. With all of the above being sad, McClellan could be a nice addition. I look for him to wind up at Houston.

As Dan Patrick says, "these schools need to be sure they have someone who wants the job before they let go of their coach." Sounds familiar to when Solich was dumped. UCLA is not UCLA anymore. That era is over and even Bill Walton can't seem to understand it. Heard Tubby might be talking to Texas Tech.

Indiana did get mauled by Syracuse and never adjusted. I've never been a fan of the Big East mugging style BB. The officiating is worse in the Women's game.
-
A player at any position that can beat their defender off the dribble is a must have for next year's team. When the jump shots fell, NU was tough, when they didn't...it was tough for NU.
-
Don't know much about the Mocs. A & M and Kelsey Bone will be very difficult for us to match up with. If we shoot lights out we have a chance. Better focus on the Mocs first.

We need a big, physical inside player. Does the girl from Shelby Rising City fit that category?

Husker Hoops Watch Party: Tournament Edition
Cazzie22 replied to hhcmatt's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
What channel is carrying the game? The B1G Network must not be carrying today's games nor is ESPN. -
Why isn't the B1G Network carrying tonight's game? Where can I watch it on TV?

This year's surprise player of the year ...
Cazzie22 replied to Norm Peterson's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Dylan Talley's job at PG was totally unexpected and a key reason that the team was comptetive. He is the Team's player of the year in my humble opinion. -
Adidas is who we should stay with for our apparel. Avoid Phil Knight and Nike.
-
I completely agree with tcp about our struggle against big, strong interior players. We have no post presence to defend against these types of players. Our success in the NCAA will hinge largely on our draw. I think we will be a 6 or 7 seed. With Meghin Williams leaving, the post situation is going to continue to be weak. It would be nice to have a back to the basket player but that may not fit in with our system. KU killed us in the tournament last year with Davis and Gardner inside.
-
Lindsey was battling against Alex Bentley Penn St. Pt. Guard and the Banham girl from Minnesota. She is an All-American in my opinion.
-
I'm very impressed with what Miles has accomplished with this team this season. Illinois is a capable team and for NU to battle them to the end is a tribute to the players and coaches. Well done.
-
Lady Huskers have really come on down the stretch! Hard to believe Lindsey Moore will be closing out her career. Penn St. is a difficult match up because of Greene inside. If we have our shooting touch and don't turnover the ball we have a decent chance. A B1G Co-Championship would be a fantastic finish. With a little luck in the pairings we might slip through to the Sweet 16.

This is Why I Don't Like Adidas...
Cazzie22 replied to HuskerFever's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Stay away from Nike. Stay with Adidas. Have you seen the tournament uniforms for KU, Baylor, Louisville, Cincy and others? Neat look. Leave the dark lord (Phil Knight) in his Nike cave. -
Coach Miles can only work with what he has available. I am extremely happy with what he has produced this year with the roster he has available to work with. The team has to be worn down from the season and the lack of any substantive depth. Give Coach Miles time, we will be competitive though I don't forsee B1G Championships.

Not enough Hotel rooms.

Speaking of graduate transfers ...

Where is Michael Dixon from last year's Mizzou team transferring? I haven't heard. -
I don't know. I put the 4th option but I like what I'm seeing from Coach Miles and this year's team. He didn't write the year off and the guys compete. I cringe at some of the shot selection but if Gallegos is hot, we look pretty good. I'm willing to give Miles time. Doubt if we ever contend for the conference championship.

Need to finish strong. Winning at Michigan and Wisconsin won't be easy. Wisconsin is the only team to beat PSU. Iowa will be tough to beat again and we will have to play great to beat PSU. I'm very pleased how the Huskers have responded to some early misfortunes.
