Vote for the Nebraska Basketball Mount Rushmore

Stuart Lantz, Venson Hamilton, Eric Piatkowski, and Tyron Lue Wait, I cannot leave out Jack Moore!!! -
Shooting is largely confidence when you have the fundamentals down. Probably a confidence factor more than anything else. She does play pretty good defense and provides a scrappy attitude for her team.

Nice win over a very physical team. Rutgers plays "city" ball and we don't have many players from Metropolitan areas. It will be a tough rematch in a couple of weeks at their place. I am impressed with how the team is beginning to forge an identity and get some toughness. Several missed bunnies were maddening but the execution to get those shots and the lack of turnovers was huge. Blackburn's follow shot might have been one of the big plays of the game though Romeo's 3's were the momentum changer. I might have been a little to hard on this group in some earlier postings but the team today should make Husker fans proud. Tied with a road men's victory...not a bad day for the Huskers in BB!

Nebraska (10-8) vs. Illinois (9-8) Game Thread

Nice win. Good effort, shooting was impressive and the defense wasn't bad. -
After watching a replay of the Penn State game on B1G Network, many of our turnovers were the result of trying to force a fast pace. Some high risk passes were rewarded with easy baskets, though we did miss too many cripples around the rim. Playing that pace allows us some easy shots but you have to live with the turnovers. The Defense is questionable at best. PSU was able to drive without fear to the rim and had way too many offensive rebounds. We try to help and recover, but we don't recover like Cady and Sample were able to do last year. Romeo's defense is best when she is able to make some steals after we make baskets. None of the guards can stop dribble penetration though Clark seems to be the best overall. I don't think Esther hurt is in the game at all. She moved the ball and defended as well as anyone else on the floor.

I have total admiration for Coach Yori's willingness to discipline players. There are expectations that must be met and their is a consequence when those expectations are not met. My comments are based on one game seen in perosn (Arkansas St., and what I have witnessed on TV or listened on the radio) 1. Defense, rebounding and turnovers are all issues. 2. We lack the size, strength and quickness of many of our conference foes. (we have height, but not the size and strength) 3. Team has not folded the tent and will compete. 4. If the RT of old returns to form or near form, NU will be competitive. 5. A finish in the middle of the pack would not be a bad achievement. There are no easy wins in the league. Indiana has been a surprise and Michigan St. seems to be an enigma.

In retrospect, Romeo's two big steals were huge in this game.

2 big free throws for Clark! 2 more big free throws from Clark! Nice road win. Clark was ice down the stretch at the line!
-
School record 8 threes for Romeo, 9 pt. lead

uneblinstu's Post Game Chatter: Vol 8, Issue 18 - vs Minnesota

Two easy conference wins is nice to put in the bank. Confidence may be everything for this team. The next 5 games are brutal but my hope is that the team will compete in each one. -
A much needed victory. Need to go to Happy Valley and play a solid game there. Michigan St. blasted Northwestern today. The Spartans are pretty good.

Shots tend to fall when you have a lead and everything is going well. Nice win for the Huskers. A confidence boost to take into a needed win against the Gophers at PBA. -
I'll stop you right there. We have some growing pains this season but this Freshman class is going to be very good you just have to give it time. We have another group of guards coming in next year too that will provide depth and might have a future star amongst them. The future is bright in my opinion so I don't buy your statement. I probably sounded too negative but we clearly need more speed and quickness. I hope the incoming group has some.
-
Must be a national thing. Iowa State only had 8 suited up against Texas last night.
-
The future is not bright for NU Women's BB. Maryland is bringing in a top rated class and we were clearly outclassed at every position tonight. Some observations: (1) Maryland's quickness overwhelmed our weak defense (2) Jess S. has a lot of work to do to compete with elite competition (3) That is not the Rachel Theriot of old playing (4) I liked Maddie Simon, showed some ability and her size is nice to have (5) Blackburn needs to get back in the starting lineup (6) Washington might have some potential. Connie may have to evaluate recruiting if we are to compete at a high level in the B1G...we have to get more athletic and more quickness. Tonight's game should make fans appreciate how tough Cady, Sample and company were the past few years.
-
We have lost some good players due to transfer but I respect Connie for sticking to her guns about what she demands from players. NU had players that want to be there and will play hard. This team will be very good by the end of the year, barring any injuries.
-
With Cal's size a 1-3-1 trapping zone had to be hard for the Huskers to handle. 6'2 wings would make it tough for Romeo and Clark to pass around and through...and it seems even Theriot had difficulty. Not a bad loss, if there is such a thing and some road experience was needed.

Where Are They Now? - Jason Dourisseau

Oklahoma A & M became the 8th member of the Big 8... -
Not much depth at the guard spots. Clark is getting more playing time tonight. Theriot may have to become a 40 minute warrior in the B1G season.
-
I was fortunate to see several BB games at Phog Allen back in the early 80's during the Ted Owens era...great atmosphere, but nothing like today as the Jayhawks were in a down period. The old Mike Ahearn Field House at K-State was an experience and seeing NU in the Coliseum was memorable during the Tom Baack, Stu Lantz, Grant Simmons days. Worst arena? Frank Erwin Center in Austin, TX. It is in it's last period of use and a new arena for just basketball will be built.
-
Simon's injury has to lead for more playing time for Cincore. It is really too bad that Chandler Smith transferred.
-
Wow! Losing Simon hurts, I imagine that is a season ending injury. Probably has played too many games to Redshirt.

Miami ( 5-1) vs. Nebraska ( 5-2) Game Thread
Cazzie22 replied to Bugeaters1's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Nice effort, rebounded fairly well. Miami was a lot quicker and we did a decent job keeping them out of the lane. Probably lost because we don't have that one guy who can get their own shot when necessary. I would have liked to have seen White more involved offensively. Webster fouling out hurt. Should be a building block.
