  1. Georgia and Miami both took care of business today. Combine that with FGCU and UMass winning yesterday, and our non-con probably got smidgen better this weekend! Also, UAB is up 2 on Charlotte right now, 30 seconds before halftime
  2. That first round game is high risk/low reward. We would likely be playing an Illinois or Northwestern team with nothing to lose. Beat them, and you're not doing much to help your resume. Lose, and that's a great way to take yourself out of the NCAA discussions. I know a lot of people on this board look at the first round as an easy way to add to our win total, but I just don't see it that way. I'm squarely in the "first round bye is a good thing" camp.
  3. Cincy loses at the buzzer
  4. There have been multiple studies performed on this over the years, and the answer is always officiating. We as fans do have an influence on the outcome of the game, but the effect is that we get into the refs' heads more so than the visiting team's brains. http://thefixisin.net/homefield.html
  5. http://www.cbssports.com/collegebasketball/eye-on-college-basketball/24447438/nebraskas-body-of-work-is-better-than-its-record-probably-suggests
  6. I love Jack Stack!
  7. Please explain where you "real fans" get the money to travel to every road game.
  8. This needs an explanation before I give it a down arrow. All I can think about right now is half the Okie State basketball team dying in a plane crash on a snowy day, January 27, 2001. We're talking about the team travelling by plane to Michigan on a snowy day and you say, "Wish they didn't make it?" And by that you mean? I think he was more referring to our somewhat low chances of a victory, and that a weather cancellation may be good for our overall record.
  9. I stand corrected. Although I'm apparently not the only one to have thought this, as a quick google search for "Walter Pitchford left handed" returned this article where Lee B. also thought he was a southpaw: http://www.omaha.com/article/20130914/HUSKERS/130919099 And interestingly enough, if you grab a freeze frame at the top of his jumper it almost looks like he's chucking it with both hands. The jumper at around 0:16 to 0:17 of this HS video captures that.
  10. I noticed a few games back that Pitchford appeared to shoot a free throw right-handed. I had been meaning to look for confirmation of this in recent games, but he hasn't exactly been a regular at the charity stripe. But then tonight, I saw the same thing. Seems very odd to me. Are there any other basketball players that shoot jumpers lefty but FT's righty, or vise versa?
  11. Best pregame video ever was in '05-'06. A bunch of clips of Aleks beating his chest and dunking, paired to the epic music of Carmina Burana! Impossible to beat.
  12. Watching Biggs sky for that rebound in his #1 jersey and headband made me think--does Sek Henry still have eligibility?
  13. So you're sayin' there's a chance...
  14. We'll be fine. This team has the physical tools to become something special. I'd rather lose like that than how we have in the past. The coaches can take a loss like this and teach the team where they need to improve. What were the coaches (either staff) supposed to do in previous years? Probably just look at the film and say "well, we played hard but unfortunately the other team actually has talent. And all we've got is Chris Balham's 50 year old knees." Yeah, I'll take mental mistakes and growing pains any day over knowing that the team's ceiling is .350 in league play.
  15. Sounds like the Hoyas also believe they are in the lead, and view SMU as their greatest threat. Interesting that they don't think Robinson has any real interest in Nebraska. Hope to prove them wrong! http://www.casualhoya.com/2013/9/3/4689558/elbert-robinson-georgetown-hoyas-recruiting
  16. While I agree its obviously a good sign that he's coming for an official, I fail to see any advantage to the fact that he wants to commit before his senior season. Maybe you're confusing the start of the school year with the start of his senior basketball season? He's also stated that he plans on taking all 5 of his officials before coming to a decision although I hope his visit here changes that thinking. With the early signing period running November 13-20 this year and his senior season starting sometime around that time, he has 3+ months to get all those visits in. My logic is that at the most we're likely competing against 4 other schools (his other visits that are yet to be scheduled),and he only has a few commitable offers at this point. Hammond seems like the type of player that could see his recruiting blowup in the spring, since decent big men carry a premium in the late signing period. Could easily be a blueblood's plan C. But if he wants to sign in November, we don't have to worry about that. I'd rather compete with St Louis and Oklahoma today, rather than Kansas and Arizona tomorrow.
  17. He's also said that he wants to commit before his senior season. That's good for us, since we've already got him on an official visit and he'll likely sign during the early signing period.
  18. The first half of that sentence makes your avatar selection kind of puzzling. Really? The fact that I dig the heck out of their burgers and fries (the chili is pretty tasty, and I used to live on their chicken sandwiches) and they have a tie-in (or at least used to have one) with the basketball team I cheer for based on that team's success (that was poorly worded, I know) means it's puzzling for me to have the Runza logo as an avatar? If I loved Valentino's lasagna but couldn't stand their pizza would that make it puzzling for me to wear a Valentino's shirt? Hmm... Maybe if I had a pic of one of the ovenstuff'd sandwiches I could see your point. Its more that the name of the restaurant just so happens to be synonymous with the name of their famous sandwich and most people would assume if youre talking about Runza that you like the Runza. Most people dont go around touting a steakhouse for their salad which may be their #2 item on the menu when their steak is what they were made famous for and I think thats why hes saying that. My thoughts exactly
  19. The first half of that sentence makes your avatar selection kind of puzzling.
  20. Zylan was mentioned in a nice little article over on CBSSports. Unfortunately, it looks like he's interested in staying close to home. We're not out of the race yet, but Miles' chances of landing him seem to be decreasing. http://www.cbssports.com/collegebasketball/blog/eye-on-college-basketball/22771682/notebook-zylan-cheatham-and-terry-larrier-continue-rising-in-2014
  21. Also, he's from the Virgin Islands and didn't come stateside until '08. Kind of adds to the possibility that he was a late bloomer
  22. Assuming McDermott leaves, I think playing early actually benefits Nebraska. CU will still be trying to figure out how to replace their top 3 players. NU will be integrating players into the lineup that have already been on campus a full year. Both teams will have growing pains, but I would think the Jays adjustments will be more difficult.
  23. They also are returning Artino, which IMO looked better at times than Echinique this season. Did Artino play in either Tourney game? Other than 3 & 00, I didn't see anyone over 6'5" worth the price of admission for CU
  24. Maybe Tai just hasn't taken the SAT yet. My understanding is it is only really accepted by American Universities, but the test is proctored worldwide. So until he knew he was coming to America, the test probably would not have been a priority
