HHCC Game #03 - vs. Louisiana Tech (Nov. 19, 7:00 PM CST)
aphilso1 replied to HuskerFever's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Good guys win: 80-70. -
I'm impressed that KenPom ranks waaaaaay down there at 63rd of 70. We're some smart predictors, us Husker folk. Crushed that know-nothing Ken Pomeroy feller!

Sacramento St. (0-1) Vs. Nebraska (0-0) Game Thread

Watson certainly practiced finishing through contact in the offseason. Morrow looking more confident offensively. Jack looking like he can be our 3-point sniper. Quite a few guys not bringing their A-game tonight: Jordy, Horne, Roby, Michael. But each of them showing some flashes of impressive skillsets and/or improvement. The only guy who I'm having to lower expectations for is Gill. Really thought he could make a Petteway-type impact as a first year transfer, and instead he looks like a guy who may not even see the floor once we tighten up the rotation. -
I recognize that sarcasm is the easy response to a stat line like that. Bu that being said, anyone that just played 17 significant minutes for Arizona could probably have helped us this year.

Huskers 80 Sac St 60 8 wins -
I'm ready to defend my title!!!

I'm with Dimes on this one. IMO Watson will play the most minutes of anyone on the roster this year. If we're going with a 9 man rotation, that would make the backup PG the 9th man unless he can steal minutes at the 2.

Yep. All the recent tidbits from the *secret* scrimmage against ISU and then again yesterday have made me ready for Nebrasketball to come back!
-
Ahhhhh yeahhhhh
-
I love nearly everything about the new site Dimes, with one minor quibble. I'm not a fan of the round avatars. But considering that's the least important change, I'd say kudos to you!

Also, my icon looks stupid now thanks to the round vs. square design. But otherwise, cool new site.

Very interesting. I'm pleasantly surprised to see us at 87, as I really thought the loss of White and Shields would drop us to around the 120+ range. Doing some rough math on the Adjusted O and D measures compared to last year, we are expected to score 7.5 fewer points per 100 possessions, and to concede 5 fewer points per 100. So let's get speculative: -The 7.5 drop to AdjO sounds about right. We lose our two best scorers plus a player who, when on the floor, hurt us offensively. So two huge negatives plus a positive in terms of how you'd expect our offense to perform this year compared to last. Couple that with some incremental improvements, especially from our group of sophomores, and an overall drop of 7 or 8 points per 100 possessions sounds about right to me. -I always felt like Shields held his own on the defensive end of the floor, and Benny was a good pest on the opposing PG. I have to think losing those two guys should hurt our AdjD pretty substantially. Incremental improvements from returning players shouldn't be nearly enough to offset those two personnel losses, IMO. So unless I'm missing something, that means that we're getting a pretty hefty bump in our AdjD because we lost AWIII. And by hefty, I'm guessing 6 or 7 points per 100. Interesting; but, upon further thought, not entirely unexpected.

I want to be optimistic, but remain on the fence until I see the following things: 1. Leadership. Tai is the most likely source to produce that, but it will be impossible to replicate the level of on-court leadership that Shields provided. The dude was a three-time captain. That can't just be replaced. 2. Camaraderie. Much has been said about this team looking like they're bonding and enjoying each other as teammates. Might I remind you that the same comments were made about last year's team. Also, it worries me ever-so-slightly that in all these pics and videos of the team having a great time together, I don't recall seeing Gill in them. Hoping that we don't see another AWIII/hired mercenary mentality from our stud transfer. We need Gill to produce, but we also need Gill to be a great teammate. 3. Just win, baby. We will know within the first month whether or not the pieces are in place for a good year. Early games against Dayton, possibly UCLA, and Clemson will tell us what this team is made of.

The thing that worries me the most is the word "chronic." It seems like our players never just break a bone, sit out a couple months, and then come back 100%. There's always some kind of extenuating circumstance that limits their abilities forever after. We're snake bit! Cursed! The sky is falling! Our next POTUS is either Hillary or the Donald! Ok, now that I've got that out of my system...GBR.

Worst news ever. -
Roby's still out, and Gill has apparently joined him. Both due to "chronic pain issues." Sigh... http://www.omaha.com/huskers/mens-basketball/nebraska-without-injured-anton-gill-isaiah-roby-to-open-basketball/article_d642b4e8-8428-11e6-90fa-377bee5f4c0b.html

Anybody else want to see a red away version of these and alternate blacks?! Alt black in those bad boys? Yes please. Adidas, get on this!!!
-
Breakdown his game for us dummies who haven't been able to follow him as much? Smoother operator. Long and rangy for a SG. Nice looking shot. Haven't seen much video of him on the defensive side of the ball, but body type seems to indicate he should be able to slide down and guard the other team's SF.

Best news since 1492 when Columbus sailed the ocean blue. -
I'm surprised that we're only on Page 2 for this kid. He's a Rivals 150 player, with offers from NC State, Cincy, Illinois, Ohio State, Texas A&M, and Xavier. And he's coming on an official visit tomorrow. Where's the buzz? I know our roster has improved, but not to the point where a kid like this should illicit a collective yawn. I, for one, am very excited by the prospect of landing Allen!

Quietly, of course. -
2017 PG Parker Stewart -> Pitt -> UT Martin -> Indiana

I think our academic support system will help him with that class. Now geology, that could be a tougher rock to split.... I slept through every one of my geology lectures at DONU, and thanks to my personal tutor (now wife) I still managed to get an A. The key is to find a nice young lady scientist. -
My gut says we get either Bailey or Stewart, plus Nana. I think this will be a four-man class of: PG: Stewart or Bailey SG: 5th year transfer SF: Nana PF/C: HS Senior who is not currently on the fans' radar, but is likely someone the coaching staff is following as a Plan B.
