Nebraska (15-14) vs. Michigan St. (23-6) Game thread
brfrad replied to Bugeaters1's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
I like how we are crashing the boards, we show more want to tonight. MSU is making everything (albeit with wide open looks). We just can't get back into the game. Got it cut to 12, back to 16. -
The same could be said last year, yet we finished 4th with the same starting 5 minus Gill/Taylor. The players are good. The problem is mental. And, I feel this team is not mentally strong. You can see things snowball when shots aren't falling, or they get down early. That might lead to the theory of why the team played well in the non-conference with Riggins help early on. Then, they lose Copeland and things go downhill fast, and Riggins was no longer around.

According to the committee it is 15 - 13, as the game against Coe College does not count in the record the committee receives, IIRC. They are Division III.

Miles is retained what does the team look like
brfrad replied to Ron Mexico's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Bracket matrix has Minnesota, Clemson in. They also have Seton Hall, Indiana, and Creighton as the first four out. -
Some players reach their full potential earlier than others. That could be Watson. Although, he is having a decent season this year. Mostly non-conference. Palmer has never been a good outside shooter. The problem with Palmer was when we lost Copeland, the lane became clogged. No one could spread the floor. He shot 42 % from 2 before the injury, and has shot 32 % from 2 after the injury. Allen is inconsistent which goes with playing full time for the first time. Big man have not developed very well. However, Ubel had a good senior season with Miles. He turned it into a good career overseas. Roby went from little interest from schools to a potential first round NBA draft pick. Andrew White went from a little used player at Kansas to an NBA player. Morrow has regressed at Marquette. Why do we have this narrative that Miles is a terrible coach? Terrible coaches don't take a team who hasn't been to an NCAA tournament the previous 16 seasons, and take another school to their third at large bid in program history. Terrible coaches don't finish with a school record 13 wins in a power conference (no matter how down the conference was according to sources). He is a good coach. It just didn't work out for him here.

After reading the article, my takeaways. Moos is going to fire Miles. This article was the nail in the coffin. I thought there was a chance he might keep Miles around. I have no idea why they couldn't keep Riggins, if the team was showing progress. It does sound like Riggins left in November. So, you really can't blame losing him as a reason for the collapse (more to do with Copeland's injury). Especially, if you allow Frost and Cook to bring in outside consultants at a cost. What do the sport's psychologists do if the coaches have to come to them? Why doesn't Moos assign them to teams? One gets football, golf, baseball, etc. Another gets basketball, wrestling, track, etc.

A big win. My only criticism of the coaches was why did it take 3 weeks to start our best pitcher on Friday night. -

Curious about NU's futility

I'm sure Rutgers has done it, since joining the Big 10. -
Except last year we weren't allowed to look at the eye test. It was all about the numbers. That's what makes last year so frustrating.
-
It will be announced March 15th.

I don't believe this will happen, but 2 steaks sound good, and I don't think anybody else will have this. I'm going with Miles remains the coach.

uneblinstu's postgame chatter: vol 11; ed 29 - @ Michigan
brfrad replied to uneblinstu's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
I hope the fans show up for the game. I would have to guess for as down as we are, they are just as down. The seniors brought us bright spots. -
This team makes me angrier about last year (according to bracket matrix, they are a 5 seed). They have yet to PLAY a tier 1 game until this Saturday. Yet, they get a 5 seed, and we barely make the NIT last year. BTW it is Nevada.

Heck, we have a better resume than them THIS year. I guess I shouldn't say better, but equal. -

I hate to say it, but Dakich saying that if you play hard, good things happen. Tanner plays hard, but he has no Big 10 talent, and it showed tonight. He got abused by Teske. I guess him playing is a good thing for him. -

How does Luinardi have Minnesota in the tournament? They have a worse resume than we had last year. -

I don't think in the NBA it is a shooting foul. -

I agree with sitting them to start the 2nd half, but disagree keeping them on the bench for 8 minutes. Maybe play the other guys until the 1st media timeout. -
I think right now, it depends if Moos can get one of the top 5 on his list. If they all have zero interest, he sticks with Miles.
