  1. It was reported yesterday that Lee Barfnecht will be stepping down at the OWH. He will be sorely missed. Not only has he been one of my All-time favorite sportswriters in general, no one ever did a better job of covering Husker hoops. His writing was always well thought out, insightful, and well researched. He was fair minded, never a rah rah guy, and not afraid to use a touch of gallows humor as required. Also, other than Ed Weir and myself, maybe the most famous Superior Wildcat alumni ever.
  2. Moos could pick up Coach "K" at the airport, drive him to PBA in a white Bronco on "Live" TV and some people would still bitch...
  3. Let's not forget about the "Iceman" from Iceland... a Combo guard the likes of Mike Peltz/George Gervin.
  4. Nice work Mr. Pavelka... yer the Lyle Bremser of Husker hoops.
  5. Sixth??? That's bulletin board material right there.
  6. Ethan Happ is the Jess Settles of Wisconsin OR for you Old Timers, Mike Peplowski of Michigan St. They're like Dentist office furniture or ringworm, you can't get rid of em'.
  7. If Borchardt/Heiman were "Carl's Jr" now they need to be "Arby's"
  8. Of all the reasons to hate Creighton (let us count the ways) acting like you invented the 3 point shot and fast-break basketball is moving up the charts with a bullet.
  9. Dylan Talley is too low & Thomas Allen hasn't really done anything...YET.
  10. I thought Jordy was due for a good season and was going to be at the LEAST a known commodity in the Post. Now, it's plan B time and I'm not sure there is one. Maybe we can bring in some of those gunners over at Weslyan and spread the court even further...
  11. Those are NICE... It's just too bad not many games from the Curtis Moore era were televised. That guy had some SICK dunks.
  12. If you've seen "Red Sparrow" Ms. Butina is no Jennifer Lawrence.
  13. No... but Cuba Gooding Jr's father was the lead singer for the Main Ingredient of "Everybody Plays the Fool" fame.
  14. BUT... You have to remember Carl Hayes's nickname was 'Sco which was slang for "Score", and Tony Farmer played in the NBA for the Golden St. Warriors... ( SO, somewhat tongue in cheek) let's pump the brakes before we get too jazzed up about how things look on paper.
  15. Well, we have 3 offers out now to In-state kids, we be nice to land at least two. Sounds like Arop really blew up at the Tourney in NYC and Miles was there in person. Hopefully that kind of love impresses the young man.
  16. I've got a hunch (based on nothing of course) that Thor is going to be that "surprise" contributor off the bench that separates himself from the pack. Kid looks like he's got a bit of Gym Rat to him ala' Paul Verlander.
  17. When Moe use to stand up and yell, DAAAAAA.....VVIIIID!!! he wasn't yelling at Dave Hoppen.
  18. I'm looking for a combination of Jack Moore, Curtiss Moore, and Mikki Moore...
  19. As a former bouncer at some fairly seedy establishments, I would call that behavior not only negligent, but probably even illegal.
  20. I think those are valid questions. His inability to bring in High-end talent and lack of "personality" shall we say, left the program out in the woods for YEARS. My fondest memory from that era was when Jason Doreaussou (sp?) Dunked one at the Devaney and the entire basket collapsed. One of the few times we were on Sportscenter back then...
  21. 1. T Petteway - Legitimized the Program and got us to the dance in year two. 2. S Shields - Could have left with a new Coach coming in, stayed and was a talented stabilizing force. 3. J Palmer- Set up to be two time All B1G with the Star Power that will propel Big Red hoops to dizzying heights.
  22. Finishing 4th in the B1G and getting sent ON THE ROAD in the NIT still puts a burr under my blanket. And yes, while we're assigning blame, Collier is as good a place to start as any...
  23. Well... the GOAT would still be Earvin Johnson.
  24. I've always think Lee B. gives a fair, clear-eyed view of the Program. It might come across as harsh at times, but as Randy Moss said, sometimes the truth hurts. This lays out where the guys heads are right now, and I think they all know they have a chance to do something "Special" this year. Palmer & Copeland might be the main cogs, but a big year from Glynn could really make them dangerous.
  25. If 2/3 of the NBA are from smaller population bases there has to be more to it than "Big fish Small pond" scenarios. There could be numerous casual factors and I'd need to dig deeper into the data to uncover what those might be. As for GI /Chicago comparisons, I was merely pointing out its easier to find a D1 player in big city than a little one, nothing more than that.
