Why Recruiting Small Cities Pays Off
Handy Johnson replied to aphilso1's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
You have to consider the NHL an outlier when it comes to the ethnic make-up of it's rosters. MOST of the NBA/NFL are African Americans while the MLB has a high number of Latin Americans. Also, 500,000 might seem like a "small" population by global standards, but here in Nebraska, Grand Island at 40,000 roughly is a "big" city. I understand your point, but like anything else, you have to go where the people are right? For every Bill Jackman and Jason Glock, I think you'll always find more D1 talent in Lincoln and Omaha. -
I know getting that 1st Tourney win is a landmark achievement, but being focused on just that (which I think happens) is short sighted. I envision a K-State '88 type run with Mitch Richmond. Learn it, live it, believe it...
-
Damn you and your "new" math.
-
If you finish 13 - 5 in the B1G and return the heart of your line-up, all upper classmen btw, winning ONE game in the Tournament doesn't do a whole hell of a lot for me. Every year a team gets "Hot" in the tourney, the bracket breaks the right way, etc. Why not US? Certainly the Basketball Gods owe us a few, and we're overdue for some plain old dumb luck.

What do you think the NBA Scouts told ...
Handy Johnson replied to Norm Peterson's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
I don't expect Moses Malone, but he's a match-up nightmare and needs to get familiar with the paint. I think yer right Norm, it's in there, but he needs to bust it out... -
Contend for the B1G Title and make the Sweet 16... ( and no I'm not still hung-over from the 4th)

Roby needs to work on his low-post game. He's too tall and athletic to rely on jumpers. Turn around J's, Up and under moves, Baby hooks should all be in his tool box. -
Sidebar: How long does Lue stay in Cleveland now?
-
Everyone take a collective DEEP breath... it's not even the 4th of July yet, he's gonna be fine.

It's a trick question (sort of) Cornhuskers bring home the B1G Title THIS year, if LA Bron does hang a banner in the Staples Center it won't be without some help. As others have pointed out Magic has a taken a longview on this, plenty of money freed up for next off season too.
-
Since absolutely nothing makes sense any more, I thought I would pose this question to the All-knowing Husker faithfull. Which of these two is the MOST likely scenario: 1. Nebraska wins the B1G Basketball Title. OR 2. LA Bron wins the NBA Title with the Lakers. ( hint, don't be fooled by the 7:2 Vegas odds)

The only thing worse than Lebron to the Lakers is Mo "F'n" Wagner... -
Agreed, let Goldy and the Hawkeyes fight it out over a little Pig trophy named after a Shopping Mall. Cultivating a rivalry with Iowa in ANY sport diminishes our Brand...

There's minutes to be had at the back-up PG spot, not so much for the Wing players. Someone needs to step up and separate from the crowd, hopefully it's Harris. I got a hunch Thor will have a nice year too.

Playing Okie State in Sioux Falls Sunday Dec 16
Handy Johnson replied to jimmykc's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Looks like tickets go on sale 9/7/18 and they still haven't announced a start time. I would guess mid-afternoon... I wonder if the AD and Mike " I'm 40 I'm a Man" Gundy will ride up together? -
#24 was Kobe's number in high school @ Lower Marion. Both that & #8 hang in the rafters of the Staple Center.
-
Id say Andrew Drevo, but he was a walk on. How bout "the Toaster" Eric Johnson?
-
Fer sure Creighton, but there was a time when Kansas would have taken the top spot when both of us fielded winning squads. On the other end, Colorado, when we would "battle it out" for that last spot in the Big 8...
-
You are correct, they have an old Surry (sp?) with a life size cut out of Johnny Carson riding in it. Actually, for a County museum it is rather interesting, and Ive certainly seen worse.
-
On a lighter and more positive note, I renewed my season tickets yesterday, and could give a fat frog's a** where LeBron ends up (as long as it's not the Lakers) .

I wasn't just spouting off when I suggested a Bus/caravan to Sioux Falls. Is this something other Board members might be interested in? I think it would be an absolute hoot. -
Well, speaking for the "Get off my Lawn" crowd, trying to stack a team is hardly anything new. The Sixers tried to do it in the late 70's bringing in World B Free & George McGinnis to play with Dr. J, Doug Collins, Harvey Catchings etc. It is remarkable LeBron has played in 8 straight Finals, but his teams were never pushed by anyone else in the East. My interest in the league is waning as well, just not enuff good teams, and I've ALWAYS preferred the College game.
